Matthew Knight's PoV

I head home after helping Zoe buy meat and load her car. I'm not looking forward to this talk with my father. He's not going to like this.

I walk into the house, take my backpack off, drop it by the door with my shoes. Then I walk and put my car keys away before heading to my father's office. He's on the phone but he motions me to come and sit down. I sit down in the chair and wait for him to finish. When he gets off the phone he sets it on his desk. He asks "What's that look on your face?"
I tell him "I'm done."
"Done with what?"
"Doing this."
"You're gonna have to be more specific, son."
"I'm not going to take over your job. That's not what I want to do."
"It is. It's our company!"
"No. It's your company and always has been."
"It's yours too. I've been teaching you everything I know about it."
"I never asked you to do that."
"You always loved when I did when you were younger."
"You don't understand."
"What don't I understand?"
"I loved that because you're never here! I could actually do something with you and I loved spending time with you! As my father! You're almost never around. Back then and now! Do you know how much of my life you've missed out on? When I lost my first tooth, started school. Hit puberty. Started dating girls. Do you understand any of that? I would never date girls for very long because I wanted to impress you. Make you happy. I thought if I acted like the perfect son I would impress you. But now... Now I know you never cared about me. You just want me to take over the company. That's all I am to you. I'm not taking over the company. When I graduate high school I'm going to do what I want. I don't care."
Before my father can say anything I get up and leave. I'm so angry at him. My body starts shaking and I know I'm going to change. I run to my backyard and into the woods. I make sure no one sees me or has been following me. I take my clothes off and hide them before changing into a wolf. I start running and I keep running.

I've been running in wolf form for a couple hours now. I don't care that I've been gone for so long. I don't care about doing what my father wants anymore. I start running even faster when I hear bullets. I'm almost to the private property. I'm so close. Right as I cross the private property I get shot and collapse on the ground. That really hurts. Now I understand why Morgan and Mason are in so much pain from the gunshots. I hear voices getting closer yelling that they got one. I slowly stand up and continue walking. I'm trying to go hide so they don't see me. I keep slowly walking until I end up by Morgan, Mason, and Zoe. I collapse after I get to them. They are still building the fence. Morgan's the first one to see me. She yells "Oh my gosh! Matthew!"
The others stop working and look. They drop there supplies and quickly rush over to me. Mason tells me "This is gonna hurt but it's the only way for you to heal without keeping the bullet inside."
Zoe yells "Wait!"
Mason asks her "What?"
"It's a poisonous bullet. If you stick your hand in to get it then it'll get all over you."
"I've already been poisoned by it. It won't hurt me. Morgan go rush and get the antidote from the house."
Morgan starts running to the house. Mason sticks his hand inside me and I whisper very loudly. While he's reaching around trying to get the bullet we hear voices getting closer. Zoe says "It's the hunters. We need to get him into the house."
Mason tells her "Get the car ready. When the bullet is out we need to help him into the car then to the house."
Zoe rushes to go get the car started. Mason pulls the bullet out and puts it inside his pocket. When Zoe comes back they help me up and slowly to the car. They help me inside then drive me back to the house. With Morgan's help they all lift me up and get me into the house. They give me the poison antidote but my body doesn't seem like it needed it. My body heals very fast. They all seem surprised. I stand up after I'm healed and I'm perfectly fine. Mason says "It's either because your a new wolf...or because..."
Zoe asks "He's different?"
"Yeah..."
They all stare at me in shock and confusion. I have no idea how I could be different. There's wolves walking around the main floor and I can see the basement door is open. Why is it open? Morgan tells me "We've been letting them walk around the house. They are fighting each other or making too much noise. They all know that we are protecting them instead of hurting them."
Mason tells them "Go continue building the fence. I'll watch over Mason."
They all agree and they leave to continue building the fence. He tells me "I'm guessing you talked with your dad and got ticked off. You were gonna force change so you decided to go on a run and then got shot?"
I just look at him. I can't talk. He tells me "I can tell that's a yes. I guess I really need to start teaching you how to control yourself and your anger. We don't need you to accidentally reveal our secret because you're a newbie and because I haven't tried to teach you."
I walk around until I know I'm in control again. I head upstairs and change into my Human form in Mason's clothes. I throw some of his clothes on then head back downstairs. He tells me "We will start training tomorrow after school."
I tell him "I should probably head back home. I left everything there."
"Are you sure? You can stay here if you want."
"I'm sure. Could you give me a ride home?"
"Sure. Just take it easy because you got shot."
Mason drives me home and I thank him for it. I head straight to my backyard, change clothes, hide Mason's clothes and head back inside. My phone was in my pants pocket so it's spammed with missed calls and texts. All from my mom. My dad doesn't care at all that I ran off. I head inside and my mom rushes over to me. She hugs me and tells me "I was so worried! I was just about to call the police! Where were you? Are you ok?"
I tell her "I'm fine."
My father walks into the kitchen where I'm standing with my mom. He tells me "Welcome back."
His voice shows he doesn't care I ran off. I tell him "You don't seem worried."
"Because I knew you would come back."
"What if I didn't?"
"Son, I'm rich. I could easily hire the FBI to go find you."
"What if I decided to run off and kill myself? You wouldn't care."
My mom looks shocked. She asks "Why would you say that?"
I tell her "I'm done learning about dads job. I'm not taking over his job. I'm going to do what I want."
My mom seems surprised. Then her expression changes. She tells me "I've waited so many years for you to finally tell your father off. To be honest..."
She turns towards my father. She tells him "You've changed. You have barely been home. I don't know why I've been married to you this long. You have never cared about what our son wants at all. You just care about your stupid company and forcing Matthew to take over it. We are done. I'm divorcing you."
She turns back towards me and tells me "Matthew I'm so so so very sorry. I haven't been a good mother to you. I've become a workaholic. I buried myself into my work and helping others instead of helping us. Will you ever forgive me?"
I tell her "I will. It'll just..take some time."
My father tells her "You can't divorce me. I'm rich."
My mom tells him "Yes I can and I will. I have a stable job so I can support myself and our son."
"Not if I fight for custody of him."
"Oh really? No one knows we are married and have a son. They won't believe you."
"They will. I'll make it public."
"You won't win custody of him."
"Why is that? I'm super rich. He would live in a better lifestyle then he ever has here."
"We live in a state where the child picks which parent they want to live with."
"Not if I bribe the judge with cash."
"I'll tell the media. They will turn on you."
"Oh really? They'll turn on me? They love me. And like you said, they don't know I'm married to you and have a son."
I ask them "Am I even related to my father?"
They both seem surprised. I tell them "I look more like my mom then I do my father. I don't share any traits or looks from my father. Is he my real father?"
My father looks at my mom. My mom seems unsure. My father asks "Is that true?"
My mom looks at me and tells me "Your right."
My father gets angry. He asks "Why?"
My mom looks at me and tells us "You were rarely home. We moved here to keep me and our future kids a secret. You were barely here. The time you were here you were always on work calls. You weren't like the man I fell in love with and married. You got obsessed with work. I was lonely here all by myself. All I had was work and spending time with other people who live here. It got very boring. You never seem interested in doing anything with me. I stopped wearing my wedding ring when you were gone. Then I met a man...I fell in love with him and he loved me. I had an affair... And to be honest I don't care that I did. I ended up getting pregnant and I just pretended it was your child. You didn't seem suspicious at all. I had the baby and it was a boy. Matthew...he didn't look very much like his biological father. He looked more like me. I stayed married to you because I thought once we had a baby you would be around more often. And I took the first couple years off of work to take care of Matthew. After that... I don't know why I didn't divorce you. I always thought you would care about our son. But you never have. I became a workaholic because of you and I've hurt my son."
My father storms out of the room, gathers all his belongings, and leaves the house. My mom goes and sits down in one of the kitchen chairs. She tells me "I'm so sorry I didn't do this sooner."
I tell her "I forgive you. It wasn't your fault you married my father who turned into a bad guy."
"You don't understand."
I sit down in a chair by her and ask "What don't I understand?"
"I lied about ever having falled in love with him."
"Why?"
"I was forced into marrying him. My parents were very poor. Barely making it by. He offered to marry me and give them a huge amount of cash so I agreed. But after I married him he never let me have any contact with my family or old friends. That's why he has me living in a small town. It's harder to find me. I should've escaped when I had the chance. But... I didn't. I should've taken your biological fathers advice to divorce your father and marry him. He's a better man than your father ever will be. But I turned him away. He moved away and for all I know he could be married and have kids of his own now."
I hug her to comfort her. I can't believe I was right saying my father isn't my real father. I feel bad that when I graduate high school I can't tell her my secret. I can't tell her I'm a Werewolf. I have to push her away some. After what happened tonight I don't know if I can.
