Virgil woke up to find himself in a vaguely familiar place, as if he had been there in a dream or a long time ago. He was laying on a blanket with three metal walls, roof and floor. The front wall was made of tightly woven metal vines were he could see other contraptions like his. He blinked his eyes tiredly and tried to stand, but stopped when he felt great pain from his legs, mainly his right one. He laid his head down on his white paws and thought back to when life was nicer. When he wasn't a idiot and jumped out a window. When he was safe at home with his family to love and care for him. Oh how much he missed them, he didn't realize until then how much he missed his family.
He missed how Thomas would snuggle with him and stroke his black pelt late at night. He missed being groomed by Janus even if he didn't want it. He missed Remus teaching him how do do things and the two of them always getting into trouble. He missed Roman's overdramatic nature and silly fights with everyone. He missed Patton scampering around trying to calm everyone and his cheesy jokes meant for everyone to laugh. And how he missed Logan's calm nature and comforting warmth whenever they would cuddle.
Virgil sniffed and put his paws over his eyes, the homesickness almost too much to bare. All this for a robin. A damn robin.
Then the door opened.
Virgil looked up and heard shuffling footsteps, almost as if they were nervous or looking for something. The footsteps got closer and soon a very familiar, very missed face peered into Virgil's cage. The back cat let out a happy meow, heaving himself to his paws, keeping his right leg elevated as he stumbled to the barrier.
"Thomas! Thomas you found me!" Virgil mewed happily, pushing his nose through the metal vines.
Thomas was smiling and laugh, but also had water falling from his eyes. He opened the cage and scooped Virgil up, careful with his leg as he held him close to his warm chest. Virgil purred loudly as he shoved his face into his human's chest, rubbing up against him.
"Mr. Sanders it's time for Virgil's surgery. We need to correct the femur as soon as possible," someone said.
Thomas looked down at Virgil.
"You're going to be fine. You're just going to sleep for a bit and when you wake up you'll be find," the human told the cat.
Thomas then passed Virgil to another human who took him to a room with a large platform on it. He was set on the platform and felt a slight prick in his scruff. Soon the world started to get fuzzy and slowdown, Virgil becoming tired until he laid down and went to sleep.
