6. Unexpected Events

"Jungkook-ssi, you're required at the second floor. The cat we got in here yesterday is having some problems." Soobin, the new trainee said as he peeked into Jungkook's cabin.

"Ok, I'll be there, give me a second."

Jungkook is in his cabin taking a review on the files that hold all the progress of the animals.

The animal clinic Jungkook got a job at was big and handled various types of animals. There were various sections divided to sort them. The clinic also had a pet training center and an animal therapy center for depression patients. Jungkook is happy that he got a job here.

Jungkook made his way to the second floor. He had treated the cat that got in yesterday, seemingly, to have developed some type of infection.

"What happened to you little kitty? Why are you acting so grumpy? You look like one of my hyungs." Jungkook chuckled to himself as he took the cat in his hands and laid her down on the examination table. The so called grumpy kitty was giving Jungkook a hard time, totally not cooperating but Jungkook used his expertise and continued to treat her.

Once Jungkook was done he handed the cat to nurse and started to make his way to do his routine checkups. He was checking the last cat when Yerim, one of his coworkers came into the room the cats were kept in.

"Are you done Jungkook-ssi?"

"Yes, almost. Give me a second." Jungkook gave a small smile to Yerim and proceeded to check the last cat.

Once done, he made his way to Yerim who was waiting for him by the door, "It was a hectic day today, can't wait go to home."

"Yeah, let me just grab my stuff from my cabin and then we can leave."

"I think I'll have to call an uber today. It's drizzling outside, quite unusual," Yerim says, searching through her purse for her phone.

"What? It's raining outside? In November?" Jungkook says, shocked. Thank god he has his own car. He hates rain with a passion.

Yerim nods her head and pulls her phone out from her purse. "Go get your stuff, I'll wait by the exit and book an uber," Yerim says, waving Jungkook off and making her way towards the exit.

Yerim is a good friend, in fact the only friend that Jungkook goes along with in the hospital. They both joined the clinic together and clicked easily as they were both the same age. Yerim is a fun and caring woman, Jungkook actually admires her for how kind she is.

Jungkook opens the door to his cabin and quickly grabs his stuff. He had a hectic day too and he can't wait to go home, eat ramen and sleep.

He hears some commotion outside as he exits his cabin, Yerim is rushing towards him. "Jungkook, someone just came in with an injured dog. Can you please attend them? My uber just arrived and I have to go."

Jungkook tries to look past her and indeed there is someone. He can hear them asking to help the dog. From where Jungkook stands he can't see them, Soobin is blocking the view.

"Okay, I'll attend them. You can go, bye." Jungkook waves at her as he makes his way to Soobin and the certain someone.

Jungkook Briskly walks towards the commotion trying to look at the dog to examine the situation. The dog is indeed injured, his leg bleeding.

"Soobin, go to the surgery room and get all my equipment ready," Jungkook instructs him and soobin quickly follows his instruction, giving him a nod.

The hands which are holding the dog are trembling slightly and Jungkook takes a peek at the person, reaching out to take the little puppy, but he freezes mid because holding the little puppy is the Kim Taehyung himself.

"O-oh Jungkook?" Taehyung looks as shocked as Jungkook is, eye's wide and hair drenched from rain.

"Taehyung.....?" All the times Jungkook had imagined meeting Taehyung, meeting him like this was never on his list, unexpected, hysteric and with an injured dog that Taehyung is holding close to his heart.

Right the dog, injured dog. God Jungkook snap out of it, you have a situation to handle, and with that Jungkook is moving forward to take the little puppy from Taehyung's hands. The puppy makes a whimpering sound and Jungkook makes a rush towards the examination room.

"I found him by the sidewalk. He looks like he has hurt his leg, just look how much it is bleeding. You can help him right?" Taehyung follows him worried, probably even having a panic attack from how hysteric he sounds.

Within seconds they reach the examination room and Taehyung tries to follow them inside but Jungkook stops him turning around, "you wait outside, don't worry he'll be fine." He knows that if Taehyung comes inside he'll probably pass out within seconds.

Taehyung gives a small nod, shoulder slagging. Jungkook feels bad but he quickly snaps out of it and makes his way into the room.

Soobin is already inside with all the equipment ready. Jungkook lays the puppy on the examination table and begins to treat him.

The puppy is a Pomeranian, a small one with black and golden fur. His injury isn't that bad, it looks like he has stabbed his leg somewhere or maybe someone had hit something made of glass on his left front leg. Jungkook quickly washes his wound, takes out the small pieces of glass from his leg, applies some ointment and then bandages it. He then also gives the puppy some injections for killing pain. By the time he is done the small pup is already asleep, shaking slightly but soobin quickly wraps him into a blanket and shifts the dog in front of the heater.

Jungkook then removes his gloves and washes his hands, stalling the process because it's time that he'll have to face Taehyung. He wishes for a magic fairy to give him an invisible blanket, so he can disappear forever, but that is not happening. Jungkook hates the world and hates how it works.

"Inform the night staff to take special care of him and you can leave too, it's getting late." Soobin puts the dog in the cage, says 'okay' to Jungkook and exits the room.

Jungkook dreads going outside, sighing to himself, there's waiting anymore now, he'll have to face it. He grabs his stuff that he dropped in the examination room and takes a deep breath, opening the door.

Taehyung instantly jumps on his feet when he sees Jungkook. "How is he? Is he okay?" Taehyung is worried, as expected.

"He's fine, I bandaged his leg and gave him meds. He'll be ok." Jungkook says, scratching the back of his neck. Dang' this is going to be awkward.

"Oh! Thank god. Can-can I see him."

"I put him into one of the recovery rooms. He's sleeping right now," Taehyung's face falls at this and Jungkook feels bad so he quickly continues, "you can see him tomorrow, I-I mean if you want to."

"No-no, I want to see him. I mean it's ok, I'll visit tomorrow."

They fall silent then, both not knowing what to say or what to do. Is meeting your ex after 4 years of disappearing on the face of earth, always this awkward?

Jungkook takes a look at Taehyung,unable to control himself, Taehyung's eyes are down casted on his hands. Earlier during all the commotion, Jungkook didn't get any time to take a look at Taehyung but now that he did, Jungkook swears his heart has skipped some beats. Taehyung's face still holds it's boyish charms but his jaw is more defined now and he has more piercings. Also back in college, Taehyung had faded shade of brown colored hair, now his hair are pitch black. His shoulders are more broad but he still holds to his delicate features. And Jungkook? Jungkook all over again feels dumb to be standing in front of beauty called Kim Taehyung.

When the silence between them stretches sickeningly long, Jungkook more and more becomes aware of the situation. However, it's Taehyung who breaks the silence.

"I should get going now."

Jungkook nods, not knowing what to say. It's not like he can ask Taehyung to stay and have a conversation with him, catching up on how much Taehyung hates him. So he just keeps his mouth shut.

"I guess, I'll see you around then." And with that Taehyung leaves.
