9. Unfair Friendships

Next week rolls in and Jungkook finds himself staring at the clinic's door every thirty minutes, he even tells Soobin to inform him if Taehyung shows up. There's a nagging feeling in the back of his head saying that maybe Taehyung will not show up, especially after how Jungkook may have fucked up last time they met.

He makes a mental note to not say anything along the lines of, 'I miss you', 'I love you', ' how are you', 'I'm sorry', to Taehyung. Talking to him about Yeontan is easier, Jungkook loves to see how Taehyung's eyes light up when they talk about Yeontan. It's easier that way.

However, it's Wednesday and Taehyung has not shown up yet, he said he'd visit this week but so far he has not, and Jungkook feels disheartened. What was he even expecting? Honestly, people bring injured stray animals to the clinic all the time and then they never show up. It's not Taehyung's job or duty to keep tabs on Yeontan.

Jungkook sighs for the umpteenth time, as he walks through the corridors of the clinic, His mind is distracted, going to and fro with all the 'what ifs'. He walks towards the floor where dogs are kept to check up on Yeontan, his leg is healing eventually and Jungkook wants to share this with Taehyung just to see his boxy smile and stars in his eyes. Jungkook quickly rubs the image out of his mind, it's not helping his poor heart.

When Jungkook opens Yeontan's cage, he slowly waddles outside, front left leg slightly bent up to avoid pressure on it. Jungkook quickly picks him up and lays him on the examination table to do his routine checkup.

He already informed the nurse in the morning that he'll take Yeontan for a walk today in the small park they have attached to the clinic. Yeontan cannot walk yet but he needs some fresh air and outdoors. He's also Jungkook's favorite so Jungkook makes an exception and takes him for a walk.

Jungkook hears Taehyung first before he sees him as they pass through the reception, he is asking about Jungkook and immediately turns around when he sees Jungkook in his peripheral vision.

"Hey Taehyung," Jungkook says, walking up to him, nodding towards the receptionist to wave her off.

"Hi Jungkook." Yeontan perks up from where he is settled in Jungkook's hands at Taehyung's voice. He lets out a small 'woof', tail wiggling.

"Come with me, I'm taking Yeontan for a walk."

Taehyung nods and follows Jungkook towards the park.

The small park they have attached to the clinic is very lively during evenings. Nurses and vets often walk the pets around here at this time for very much needed fresh air.

Taehyung is looking around taking in the surroundings, his eyes are wide as he looks around, "Wow, you have a park in the hospital?"

"Yeah, it's convenient," Jungkook says, as he gestures for Taehyung to take Yeontan in his arms.

"You okay with sitting on the grass? That way Yeontan can walk around us." Taehyung nods, and they search for a spot to sit on. As soon as their butts hit the ground, Yeontan wobbles out of Taehyung's hands to walk around them and Jungkook keeps a close watch on him.

"How is he doing?" Taehyung pats on Yeontan's fur and he immediately starts playing with his hands.

"He's doing good, he'll completely heal in a week," Jungkook says, his eyes fixated on Taehyung who is looking downward at the little puppy. Jungkook immediately averts his eyes.

"What will happen to him then?"

"We'll put him for adoption, although i don't think anyone would want to adopt him."

Taehyung's frowns, eyebrows scrunching at that, "why?"

"Cause' he's injured and has some problems, and nobody wants to adopt an injured dog."
