seven: new kid
"Are you sure you're okay?" Belle asked for the millionth time.
"Yes, surprisingly I am," I sighed. It's been a week since the incident in the woods and Belle has asked me at least once an hour if I was okay.
After telling her that I was saved by a huge wolf and explained everything, she has not shut up. Once she asks me if I'm okay, she'll go on and on about how it was probably a werewolf. Her evidence is the time when a wolf howled back at us that one night.
"B, I just want my hot chocolate. Please," I roll my eyes. We were currently at The Bean Juice and this time I brought her with me. No incidents, no animals jumping in front of my car or scary people kidnapping me into a forest.
"Coming right up!" she smiled. Studying has gotten boring and our brains weren't retaining any information for the midterm coming up. It's always the end of November, which means Thanksgiving and midterms. Lucky us.
The cafe was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday afternoon. Students of our college and other high school students were hanging out, some people were studying and others were fooling around. Belle and I were doing a little bit of both.
"Hot chocolate with extra whip cream and cinnamon for lil C," Belle mocked me.
"I don't know why you and Amelia insist on naming me lil C when I'm the oldest," I rolled my eyes. Despite my slight annoyance, I grab the steaming cup of goodness and eat the cream on top.
"You're such an animal," Belle laughs.
"Seriously, fuck off, B," I throw a sugar packet at her. We stare at each other in pure nostalgia. "I miss this."
"Me too," Belle admits. "I miss Lia, too."
"Hey! Let's not talk nonsense, let's have fun. Besides how shitty this semester started, we can have some fun, right?" I smile widely. I look around the cafe and my eyes fall on a handsome young man for looks exactly Belle's type. "B, look over to your right, by the cash register. Table four. Black hair, green shirt."
Belle looks over towards the guy and turns back to me with wide eyes, "oh my gosh, a total hottie!"
"I know, go get him! He looks about your age, from what I can tell. Get his number and invite him out this weekend, after midterms," I encourage her. She nods and stands up, walking over to the guy. I watch as she taps him on his shoulder while she twirls her hair. That's my girl, a complete flirt.
After a few minutes, she comes back with a small piece of paper and a wide smile, "I did it, but I'd like to let you know, it's the same guys from the mall."
"Oh shit, well anyways you did it without freaking out! I knew you could!" I laughed. She typed the number into her phone and looked up, "oh, also, that guy with him is a cutie. He's the guy that talked to us outside of Forever 21. Honestly, he seems so perfect for you! A double date, yeah?"
I take a look over towards their table and look at the guy she was talking about. He was already looking at me, so we managed to lock eyes. I felt a tingle go down my spine and quickly snapped my eyes back to Belle, "he's cute but-"
A small cough cut me off. I slowly turned my head up to see the guy I locked eyes with. Damn. "Hi, I don't mean to interrupt, but you look familiar. I think I remember seeing you at the mall about a month-ish ago? Also, I may be in your science class," he smiled.
I opened and closed my mouth, like a fish out of water. He was so beautiful. His light hazel eyes complimented his soft caramel-colored skin. His chocolate hair curled in just the right places and fell over his forehead. I wanted to wipe the hair out of his eyes and run my fingers through his hair. Plus his cologne smelt absolutely wonderful, like burning wood and grass. It felt different than before, at the mall and in the parking lot. This time, my heart felt like it was in my stomach and my mind was fuzzy. A small sigh came from my mouth, I was truly speechless at the god-like man in front of me.
"She seems to be having an aneurism, I don't know if she's in your class, but she'll definitely take your number," Belle smiled widely at us.
I cleared my throat and took a deep breath, "um, I'm sorry. Yeah, you helped me with my horn a few weeks ago. But yeah, I take Monday and Friday classes at eight in the morning. Room 306. Professor VanDyke?" His eyes snapped from Belle's to mine, and again my breath got caught in my throat. Before he could respond, I was sent into a coughing fit. I grabbed a juice bottle from my bag and slowly drank it, hoping to calm my throat.
"I'm sorry about her, she's really not like this. She seems to be in a daze today," Belle explained for me.
Quickly, I kicked her under the table and gave her a face, "I'm sorry my friend is being like this, she becomes a bitch in front of cute guys." I look up to the guy only to see him smirk and a playful look crosses his eyes. I just called him cute, fuck.
"Thank you. And yes, I am in your morning class, although I transferred in new two weeks ago. I was wondering if you'd like to help me study for the midterm. Possibly Thursday before the test?" he asked.
I nod my head and smile sheepishly. "That'll be fine. Shoot me a text and I'll we'll set a time. It'll be here," I nod and turn my attention to Belle in hopes that if I don't look at him he'll go away. Not that I wanted him to, but he makes me so nervous.
I cleared his throat and I could hear a smile in his words, "I would love to, but I don't have your number."
Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath and turn to him, "I'm sorry. Here's my number." I scribble down my number and slide it to him.
"Can I have a name? Or would you like to be called Cute Animal Biology Buddy?" he laughed. His laugh sounded like music to my ears. I have never been so entranced by a sound, more or less a guy's laugh. I couldn't help but melt in my chair.
Belle laughed at me, "her name is Lalaloop-"
"My name is Charlotte Mae," I cut Belle off. "Uh, but Lottie for short."
"Charlotte," he sang.
I just about died right there. I nodded, "a-and yours?"
"I'm Aden, Aden Moore."
