After Quinn had woken up, Wonderlust was hearing about what had actually happened. Daniel and Henry were dead, and Quinn was still stabilized in the hospital.
Phoenix and Eric almost never left her side except to get her water or to call people to update them.
Phoenix had left to check on her mom. She was taking the breakup with Miguel very seriously.
"How're you feeling?" Phoenix asked her mom.
"How are you feeling?" Sasha asked Phoenix.
"Well my boyfriend was the son to the owner of the theater that I went to, it turned out that he didn't love me at all, and him and his crazy dad had killed thousands of people, and he was going to kill me. Oh, and I killed him." Phoenix nodded. "I'm doing great."
"Oh. You haven't even heard yet." Sasha rubbed the back of her neck.
"Heard what?" Phoenix asked. Things couldn't have gotten any worse.
"Daniel wasn't dead. The newspaper faked his death so that you wouldn't look bad." Sasha winced at Phoenix's reaction.
"Look bad? I look bad either way! What do you mean he faked his death? Where is he now?" Phoenix roared.
"They didn't want it to look like you attempted to kill a boy and then failed. I don't know. The power of the press. He escaped from the hospital. They were just going to put him in jail." Sasha explained the rest of the story.
"He escaped? This has got to be a prank. Some sort of joke. I have to go." Phoenix grabbed a backpack and left her house.
Sasha stood there in her kitchen wondering if she did the right thing by telling Phoenix.
Phoenix burst into the hospital a couple minutes later panting. She went straight to Quinn's room.
"Whoa. Phoenix what's wrong?" Quinn asked.
"Daniel. He escaped. Faked his own death." Phoenix explained.
"What?" Eric was in shock.
"No. Phoenix, that's impossible. He was dead." Quinn tried to sit up.
"Apparently he's not because there have been sightings of him along the edges of town. I did some research on my way over here." Phoenix pointed to an article on her phone.
"That's not good." Quinn straightened herself but Eric looked at her as if to say that she should lay back down. "Eric I'm fine. We have bigger problems."
"Fine." Eric surrendered.
"What are we supposed to do?" Quinn asked warily.
"You're not doing anything. This is between me and him. Eric, you'll watch her right?" Phoenix asked.
"Yeah of course." Eric nodded.
"Phoenix you can't be expected to do this on your own!" Quinn shouted after Phoenix who was already leaving.
By the time Quinn had finished talking, Phoenix had already left the hospital.
Daniel was hiding out in the record store. Billy and Alice had let him use the place for a secret hideout. "We'll cover for you. Don't worry." Billy reassured Daniel.
Phoenix was running throughout the town looking for a place that seemed right where Daniel might be.
She came across the record store. "If you had the guts to come here, you really don't care about me." Phoenix muttered as she walked in.
Alice greeted her. "Phoenix. What a treat. I heard what happened to Daniel. Really is a shame." Alice pouted.
"Yeah. Very. Is he here by any chance? I knew that him and Billy used to be very close." Phoenix told Alice.
"Really? That's the first I've heard about that. No. He's not here." Alice lied.
"Then do you mind if I have a look around?" Phoenix asked politely. Alice gestured for her to look wherever her heart desired.
She instantly thought back to when her and Daniel first met. He was talking to Billy and as soon as she had walked in, Daniel went right up to her.
He showed her this secret hallway in the store which led to an underground tunnel where he used to escape through. "Bingo." she walked in the back room where there was a broom closet.
"Where do you think you're going?" Billy asked her.
"Alice let me have a look around. Why? Is there something you're hiding?" Phoenix asked.
"No. Of course not." Billy got out of Phoenix's way. She walked into the broom closet and followed through the secret tunnel. Daniel was sitting at the end of it.
"Phoenix." Daniel stood up immediately.
"Don't say a word. I don't want to hurt you. I'm not a violent person. I just want to talk." Phoenix assured him. This was all true.
"Well I don't want to talk. How did you even know that I was down here anyways? Billy and Alice didn't tell you, did they?" Daniel asked.
"No. I remembered from when we first met." Phoenix shook her head.
Daniel seemed to remember the memory. "Fun times." he sighed.
"Listen, you don't have to do everything that your dad wanted you to do. It's not too late. All of Wonderlust isn't ready to arrest you." Phoenix shivered. The tunnel was ice cold.
"What do you want to know?" Daniel asked as he sat back down.
"I want to know your story. I want to know how you did everything you did, and what made you do it." Phoenix sat down next to him.
"Fine. I'll explain." Daniel sighed in defeat.
