Slivers of Wild

Sun's rays altered spring's chilly morn

Gusty winds turned afternoon mild

Trees dance and sway with rolling breeze

Sit observing slivers of wild

I'm perched a yard from my deck rail

Peanuts are lined up in a row

Swoop of feathers; beak grabs a nut

Relax for an afternoon show

Gray squirrel is sneaking up deck stairs

I can hear his little feet thump

Small head peeks up over deck edge

My tongue clucks; he departs with a jump

Yard is purple with violets

A woodpecker taps on dead tree

Bleeding heart is now in full bloom

Hear soft buzz of a bumblebee

Tiny gnats play a game of chase

As my pen jots down words that rhyme

Faraway I hear soft tinkle

Soft melody rings from wind chime

Tree shadows are growing longer

Tiny leaves light with green glow

Evening wind is drifting cooler

Brings an end to afternoon show
