Feeling a Little Guilty

Morning and afternoon

Mowers have roared non-stop

Blowers add to air's din

As I watch robins hop

Winds have blown in gray clouds

Someone is pounding nails

Squirrels poke through crunchy leaves

With flicks of busy tails

Hear faint words; neighbors chat

Car motors gunned for speed

As I wait for raindrops

To stifle neighbors' deeds

Smell fresh rain in cool air

Oh, please raindrops begin

Melt away human sounds

Take away human din

Need sweet hum of raindrops

To chase neighbors inside

Under my wood deck's roof

I'll watch cool showers glide

Pit, pit, pat; pit, pit, pat

Hear a soft hiss begin

People sounds fade away

Lips spread into a grin

Feel a little guilty

To just want wildlife sounds

But nature's melodies

Soothe inner battlegrounds
