Thoughts Ride

It's time to go outside

Let thoughts go for a ride

On top of treetop sway

As clouds turn slowly gray

Soft rustle of green leaves

Wild flutter in warm breeze

Scent of honeysuckle

Almost makes knees buckle

Neighbors in the distance

Mowing with persistence

Before first raindrops fall

And turn into a squall

A robin cocks his head

To hear a bug's soft tread

Breeze tickles my bare neck

And robin takes a peck

And then I hear a pat

A raindrop's big fat splat

Rain's scent rides on the air

Announcing storm's fanfare

And as tall treetops bend

And gray clouds quickly blend

Raindrops begin to plop

Hear snap and watch branch drop

And then I feel cool sprays

Wind blows raindrops sideways

Feels like a tiny kiss

Bestowed with shower's hiss

I feel my skin grow cool

And raindrops start to pool

My thoughts have gone astray

And lightened my dismay

And then a bumblebee

Streaks by towards bushy tree

Assume she's going home

It's not good time to roam

Gray sky grows very dark

Clouds begin to spark

It's time to slip inside

Until rough storm subsides

When storm has lost its sass

Clouds lighten as they pass

I step outside and spy

A rainbow in the sky
