Whispers from glowing green leaves
As tepid breeze ebbs and flows
Sun slides low behind our homes
Cardinal chirps a late hello
My neighborhood is quiet
Day of sizzle left folks drained
I cruise my flower gardens
Clip flowers before they've waned
I fill an old tall glass vase
With soft white and orange blooms
And water from garden's tap
Spray brightens dim evening gloom
Delighted I stepped outside
And set aside late day chores
To hear soft songs on the wind
Right outside my home's front door
