From a new direction
Gray clouds are slipping in
Creeping up behind me
Clouds rumble from within
Cool fingers of the wind
Tickles backside of legs
Leaves shake like paper bells
Gray squirrel sits up and begs
Then he turns and scampers
Birds flee into the trees
Orange cat lopes along
Heads home from hunting spree
Cardinal hops to peanut
Crumbles with her beak
Keeping an eye on me
She chirps through feeding streak
Sky slowly turns darker
Neighbors retreat inside
Rumbles all around me
Storm pauses on its ride
Everything is quiet
Cool wind has slipped away
Critters have retreated
Clouds turn from white to gray
Pit, pat; plop, plop; soft hiss
Cool breeze slips all around
Leaves begin to tremble
Rain's sprinkle adds new sound
Blue sky peeks through gray clouds
Raindrops suddenly end
Just a little teaser?
Before a storm descends?
Cool winds begin to run
Quite low across the ground
Then flow up into trees
I hear a hissing sound
Rain shower has arrived
Close my eyes and listen
I smell my world grow wet
Eyes open; leaves glisten
Porch roof above my head
Keeps me dry as rain falls
Afternoon immersion
Within Nature's enthrall
