Slumber's Slip

24 7 10

Lay in the dark of the night

Curled in my place of rest

Waiting for sleep to arrive

Grateful I have my own nest

Air tendrils over my skin

Muted scent of garden flowers

Crickets strum under bright stars

Owls hoot from their tall tree towers

Honk of a distant car's horn

Bark of a fearful dog

Night air begins to cool

With moisture of drifting fog

Moonbeams spotlight wood floor

As my eyes slowly close

Bullfrog thrums for a mate

Slip into slumber's doze
