Autumn Morn Savor

32 15 20

Damp from an overnight rain

Chill seeps from fall morning air

Fog tendrils around our homes

Drops flash with a hit of flare

Sun glows between drifting clouds

Soft shadows fade in and out

A nuthatch squeaks his odd call

Night's rain has ended our drought

My toes feel a nip of fall

Chickadees swoop through the trees

Red cardinals call with sharp chirps

Yellow tinge marks autumn's tease

From garden crickets still sing

White capped weeds glow at wood's edge

Chipmunk surveys my backyard

From top of evergreen hedge

A break from morning's routine

To savor first signs of fall

A snapshot of nature's flow

Will never fail to enthrall
