Swoop's Balance

What is that noise I hear?

A piercing bird cry call

Sort of like a blue jay

Sound's urgency enthralls

I step outside and look

Listen for a new cry

A loud and drawn out call

Direction mystifies

I look up in dead tree

Long wings swoop over roof

Bird flies into tall trees

Gone in a green leaf poof

Flight path came from behind

I never saw bird's head

Long wings, large round belly

Tan colors on wing's spread

Bird must have been a hawk!

It's wing span was so wide!

Belly whitish yellow

Swooped in a silent glide

His presence is a clue

Why squirrels don't hang around

Spend most of time in woods

Race over open ground

Though squirrels would not agree

I'm glad to see a hawk

There are too many squirrels

Balance for nature's stock
