Tobi bumped into Valor and Artemis. "Oh! Hey guys!"

"There you are!" Valor smiled. "We've been looking for you." She was holding a large pile of books.

"Oh, I was in the southeastern hallway," Tobi informed. Artemis and Valor nodded.

"Where are you headed?" Valor asked her.

"Oh... uh, geography."

"Really? I'm going to English," Valor said, surprised.

"I'm headed to the gym," Artemis chimed in. "Wish I could bring my bow and arrow to show these little kids what I can do..."

"Right..okay then... I heard the English teacher is really sweet," Tobi said.

"I hope so," Valor said hopefully. "The math teacher took points off because apparently I skipped a step." She then lowered her voice. "It's not my fault she didn't know I could read minds!"

"You'll get used to it," Tobi assured. "Now I gotta go. I don't want to be late."

Tobi, Artemis, and Valor split up and went their separate ways.

Valor opened the door to Mr. Arlo's classroom, which was filled with books on English. Valor whimpered as the teacher, who was very tall and had a big orange-brown beard, smiled weirdly like he didn't want to be there.

"Ms. Aki," he said in a British accent. "Welcome to English!" He smiled cheerfully. Valor sighed and put on her best fake smile.

"Hello!" she said gleefully as she took a seat. The day is almost over...I can get through this. A girl sat next to her, red, almost crimson, wavy hair delicately brushed.

"Hi, I'm new here. My name is Jenna," she introduced herself suddenly, and Valor felt awkward.

"Um," Valor smiled. "I'm Valor."

"Shhhh!" hushed Mr. Arlo. "I'm starting class!" he folded his hands. "Now then. Today we will be talking about nouns. Nouns are... what?" A boy raised his hand.

"A person, place, thing, or idea," he said. As Valor reached for her pencil, she remembered that the principal hadn't called them up yet about the incident. Hopefully, he forgot.

"Excellent!" the teacher chimed. "Give me an example of a noun, Maxon?"

"Dog," Maxon replied with worry. He shuddered but Mr. Arlo grinned in approval anyway.

"Good, good... Valor! Tell me a noun!"

"Oh uh... New Africa?"Valor suggested.

"Excellent! So, I'm pretty sure all of you are familiar with nouns," Mr. Arlo said, "But what is an abstract noun?"

A couple of students raised their hands. "Only two?"Mr. Arlo asked, pretending to be surprised. His tone was airy.  He then scanned the room. "Jenna!" he grinned. "Do you have an idea of what an abstract noun is? Hint: I said part of the definition."

"Uuuuhhhh...." Jenna thought out loud. Kids waited expectantly at her. "Maybe a noun that isn't real?"

"That's a good start," Mr. Arlo started. "But it's only half of it. Any other guesses?"

Valor raised her hand. "An idea, since you can't see or touch it?" The teacher clapped his hands together.

"Yes! Perfect!" he exclaimed. "An abstract noun is a feeling or idea, like love or worry!" Mr. Arlo handed Valor a piece of colorful paper.
