"Um, now would be a decent time to use our powers!" Valor reminded them, hopping over a twisted vine tangled into a tree as the creature lingered behind them, re-appearing and disappearing every few moments or so.
"Right!" Jered agreed. He shapeshifted into a horse so Aspen climbed on his back as Artemis turned into a dragon. Vale hopped on him then Tobi morphed into a horse, motioning for Valor to jump on her back.
"Do you think because it's 3 a.m. the creatures are coming out again?" Artemis asked as he did a barrel roll to avoid a tree, once Vale was yelling and keeping his head down while clinging to him tightly with all his might.
"No," Tobi remarked. "It didn't happen in the last few weeks. So why would it happen now?"
"I guess you're right."
"Well then, what is that?!" Aspen looked back, only to see the figure getting closer.
"Why does this always happen to us?" Vale moaned. Artemis's dragon-jewel like eyes widened and he swooped down sharply, a thick branch just barely missing Vale. It slapped his hair as he braced for the impact.
"Watch it, buddy!" he shouted. "That thing could've necked me!"
"Just be glad I'm ensuring your safety!" Artemis fired back, Patience flying right behind him as Hassa was perched on her scales. "Or you would've ended up on the ground with a busted abdomen!"
"Well what you're saying right now makes me want to bust YOUR abdomen!"
"You better not, because if you do, you're coming down with me! And I'm the one who's gonna remain alive because I can heal myself faster than a human can!"
"I'm an elemental! Not a human! And I can give you a frostbite if you don't shut up right now!"
Artemis ducked down and hanging green vines smacked Vale's face. He threw his head back, his body just slipping off of Artemis's right wing but his body securely dripping down. His eyes widened at the far landscape below. "And I could give you a poison bite or drop you if you don't quit acting like an idiot!"
Vale frowned and whipped his head up. "Well you're one to talk!"
"Are we seriously arguing about this?" Tobi yelled angrily. Her mane swept back as Valor rolled her eyes. "Stop fighting in the middle of a life-threatening chase and get along!"
Artemis shook his head warily and gritted his teeth.
"Is that thing still behind us?" Aspen asked, the wind muffling his voice.
"I don't know, douchebag! Turn around!" Vale replied.
"Don't call me that!"
"Oh I'm sorry! Your lack of common sense is gonna make me say some stupid things every now and then," he snapped back.
Aspen whirled around, and the figure was gone. Permanently gone. At least that's what he hoped.
"It's gone."
Jered snorted. "Of course it is. It's been doing that for the past fifteen minutes."
"No I mean, really gone. Like, it's not even there anymore." Artemis dropped to the ground as Jered and Tobi screeched to a halt, and trotted slowly. Aspen and Valor and Vale leapt off and stood still, waiting for the thing to come back if it would.
"Hm," Artemis murmured. "It's night time right now. It could've blended in."
"What do we do now?" Tobi said breathlessly, panting.
