After spending the last half an hour of Jai and Beau playing Fifa whilst Luke had fallen asleep on the couch I decided to clean the dishes that the boys had made. I didn’t want Gina to come home to a mess; the poor thing lived with three boys! She deserved a well-deserved break. I turned the hot water on and placed the plates and cutlery slowly cleaning them all then placing them on the side to dry. I really need to dry them but I had not an absolute clue where Gina kept the tea towels, I thought of all the logical places but I just couldn’t find them. I’ll just ask the boys later. I place the oily pan where Jai had cooked the chicken fillets in the warm soapy water to soak and then quickly wipe down the stove and benches where bits of salad and oil where everywhere. These boys were actually dirty pigs when it comes to cooking. As I walk past the door to go back to the sink I overhear the boys talking, well yelling at Luke.
‘Just ask her out Luke, stop being a pussy’
‘Yeah man up or she’ll get bored! Just do it!’
‘Fuck off, let me do what I want’ I hear Luke say defensively in his tired grovel.
‘Oooo, someone grouchy, just ask her out mate! Worse thing she’ll do it say no’
‘Easier said than done Jai, at least I can actually ask her out!’ Luke spat out, still in his shitty tone. I don’t know what I would do if he talked to me like that, I just think I would die a little on the inside. I hear a thud that I assume someone punched someone or something happened. Then I could hear them groveling on the floor
I hear the back door open, ‘Oi break it up you lot’ I hear Gina’s friendly voice a bit more hostile than usual. I quickly return back to the sink to make sure they don’t know I was over hearing what they were talking about, ‘Did you lot clean up after yourselves, or did you expect your poor mother to do it for you?’
I can hear the boys um’ing and ar’ing and then I hear them all walk into the kitchen and I turn around.
‘You got Rachel to do them for you, sorry love! BOYS FINISH THE DISHES!’ I released a slight giggle as I step aside as the boys quickly start to dry the dishes with tea towels from the mystery cupboard.
‘So Rachel, how are you my girl?’ Gina asked in her usual perky tone with a huge grin on her face.
‘I’m good, just a bit knackered from waking up early this morning, ‘I laugh. ‘How are you?’
‘Eh, alright, it was a bit hectic at work today but nothing I can’t handle. Just came back to check on the boys and get some papers I forgot. I should probably get back there. She rummages through some papers on the table and grabs the ones she was searching for. She places a kiss on each of the boy’s cheeks and whispers something in Lukes ear.
Jai exclaims, ‘Yeah Luke, listen to Mum! She’s quoting Nike!’ and Gina quickly shoots a look to silence him.
She places a kiss on my cheek, ‘Make yourself feel at home love, I’ll catch youse later. Byeeee!’ She blows a kiss and walks out the kitchen door.
The boys took about three times too long to dry about ten plates between them whipping each other and yelling at each other telling they are adopted. They really were the Janoskian boys off youtube and I was hanging out with them. I must have been daydreaming as Luke over and waved his hand in front of my face.
‘I know I’m gorgeous but you must stop staring at me like that. It isn’t healthy’ he laughs.
I laugh and shake my head trying to snap back to reality. I can’t even remember what I was thinking about, ‘Sorry.’ I see Jai and Beau pushing and shoving each other to the lounge room, I assume they must be playing Fifa again. ‘Please don’t make me watch them play Fifa’ I groan.
