Was it wrong for them to lie to their teams? Yes. But it was also wrong for their teams to even think for a second that they had a say in who they could be happy with. She waited for what felt like hours - which was only 20 minutes for her beloved boyfriend to return home - she couldn't wait for that bottle of wine...and him of course.
She knew that the breakup was staged but for some reason she couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt and discomfort at their harsh tones towards each other. Although, she decided it was best to brush it off.
"Baby, I'm home." She heard the jingle of his keys and the shuffle of his feet at the front door of her condo. He was only to be met with her arms and legs that clung to him like a leech that stuck onto someone's skin. "Hello to you too," he chuckled into her hair, supporting her weight with his hands.
He sat them on the couch before disappearing to find two wine glasses that they could drink their much needed alcoholic beverage out of. "What did they say when I left?" She asked, running her hands through his very curly hair as he poured the wine into the glasses.
He sighed before grabbing her hands and looking at her with such guilt, "they had remorse for me but they said that things could only go up from here." His voice was calm and gentle. Camila scoffed and threw her head back onto the couch. "It's okay, my love."
How could he be so sure? Their careers were on the line. If they got caught together, who knows what their record labels would say. She loved him, dearly but it was so much pressure. Especially in the music industry.
Their teams weren't as strict as their record labels that said their relationship wouldn't work and if they didn't break up, they'd both be dropped. They were stubborn at first before being dropped became a reality and that's when Shawn thought of the idea of a 'staged breakup'. It was a risk he was willing to take.
She swirled her wine glass before groaning, "Shawn, this is our careers we're risking for this." She brought reality back.
As much as she wanted to stay in their alternate universe that consisted of them being happy in the shadows as they lived a double life where it was all fine, she couldn't. She had to remind him that this was a huge risk and they could easily be banned from producing music if they didn't follow along with their record labels guidelines that they'd given to them after their six months of dating.
"I know, I know, but - I don't want it if I can't have you." He rubbed her back, trying his best to calm her down but it only made Camila freak out a bit more. It was getting all too much. "Camila, you're the muse. You're the reason for most of my songs!" He laughed, pathetically. He saw the hurt and the insecurity in her eyes and it killed him.
It killed him that he wasn't able to show her off and that now, more than ever, they had to make sure that no one saw them together as "more than friends".
"Okay...but we won't even be able to produce music if we keep this up." She reminded him, taking a huge gulp of her wine, "that's if we get caught." He chimed in, refilling his glass.
She accepted it. She loved him enough to hide behind the shadows and only be intimate with him from the inside of her house.
Two months.
They've been keeping this up for two months and not yet have any of their teams found out.
His mind kept going back to the time where Andrew - his manager told him about what the people from his record label said.
"You have to choose...music or Camila."
His mind then went to the fight Camila and him had after he told her about what Andrew said.
"I don't want you to have to choose."
He somehow - with some begging, managed to have her stick around. That went on for awhile before Shawn was confronted with him losing his career. They knew that Camila's threat was empty. They had nothing on her because her record label was different which Shawn was extremely jealous of.
Tonight was the Oscar's and he desperately wanted to walk the carpet with her and show her off - let everybody know that no one could have her.
Currently, he was back to back with her as they both did interviews.
Questions went by fast and he tried his best to curve around questions about Camila. He felt a pair of hands wrap around his neck before they were detached and he met a pair of eyes that were Hailey Baldwin's.
His heart got caught in his throat and his chest burned. He didn't want this. This wasn't the girl he wanted to appear next to him. He caught a glimpse of Camila who also noticed the women beside him and she shook her head before diverting her attention back onto the interviewer.
"Shawn...confirm it for us - are Hailey and you together?" Shawn nervously looked over at Hailey who bashed her eyelashes at him and he then looked over at his love, who was busy talking to some guy. He couldn't lie, that made his blood boil. "No. Not at all." Shawn cleared his throat before walking away.
Shawn couldn't help himself but stand up and cheer as loudly as he could for the Cuban that had just won an award against him.
She looked incredible. Her hair was straight and her dress was silver with a slit that reached very close to her hip.
Shawn looked to his right, only to be met with a pair of very stern looking eyes. It was probably because Shawn was going crazy for Camila's win.
Don't get Andrew wrong, he loved Camila. He genuinely loved the two together because he knew that Shawn had always been in love with her but he didn't want that to intercept with his record deal - career.
He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and he immediately looked at it, shielding it away from his manager.
Camila
Meet me outside in 10.He huffed. There was no way that this could possible be good. 10 minutes felt like forever - literally. He couldn't sit still in his seat and he was sweating. Shawn knew that Andrew noticed but he watched as Andrew brushed it off, "I'm gonna go use the restroom." Shawn whispered to his manager, walking away and not letting Andrew say a word.
"Hey..." he whispered, a soft smile crept onto his lips as he inched closer towards her. He took his time to check her out, "you look incredible." He meant that. She always took his breath away. She blushed, "you look pretty good, yourself." She giggled and scrunched her nose in spite of her own words. Her face fell into all seriousness, she paced in front of him and he suddenly placed his hands on her shoulders to calm her down, "what's wrong, love?" His voice was full of concern and she honestly wanted to melt right then and there.
"We need to breakup - for real. I hate being in the way of your career. I can't hide anymore. I'm sick and tired of it..." her voice faltered and cracked as she waved her hands over her eyes to stop the tears from falling but Shawn was already at it, a tear fell from his eye and he gripped her tighter - not ever wanting to let go. "Camila...no. I can fix this. I-I-I can just get dropped and find a new label-"
She shook her head, vigorously. "No, I don't want you to sacrifice this for me. It's not worth it." He felt her hands shake as she played with his hair, "you're worth more than anything, Mila." Shawn whispered, leaning his forehead against hers. Once again, she shook her head and let go but not before turning back around to give him a loving yet heartbreaking sentence.
"I love you, Shawn. Always. I'm so sorry."
