Shawn froze. His eyes still glued to the road and his hands still moving but this time, they were slightly shaking. His heart was rapidly beating and his chest, tightened.
"W-w-what?" His voice started to crack, he didn't want her to find out like this. Especially not now, not after what she's been through.
"Pull over, please," she pleaded him. She'd be lying if she said that she didn't feel any less of what he felt. She's always loved him but she was scared of possibly losing this friendship.
He did what she pleaded and pulled over. There was silence filling the car which felt like forever before Camila built up the courage to finally say something, "I'm just asking," she tried to pry the answer out of him. He sighed, before parting his lips to say something, "yes, it's true. I love you, I-I'm in love with you. I always have been. I didn't mean for it to come out now. God, especially not now!" He pushed his face into his palms, not letting himself look at her, because if he did, he knew that he wouldn't be able to fight the urge of kissing her full lips.
She sat there for a second, before carefully rubbing his back with her hand, he immediately looked up at her, with fear and love in his eyes. "I love you too," she whispered. Both of their eyes widened at each other. But relief soon washed over her. She's said what she's been feeling for years, most of the time it was fear but the rest was because of Matthew.
"Y-you do?" His voice, a little more joy in his voice. She laughed, softly, "yes, I-I have been in love with you forever," tears fell down her cheeks. Shawn caressed her cheeks, kissing her cheeks, her nose, her chin and finally, he passionately kissed her lips.
Camila, for the first time, she felt complete. Worth something. "Oh my god, I'm sorry," she started to panic, "no no no, what's wrong, honey?" His voice was soothing, like always, "I'm showing too much skin," she whispered, trying to cover her neck with her small hoodie.
Shawn looked taken aback. Never in a million years would he ever want her to say that, "you wear what you want to wear, darling," he ran his fingers over her bottom lip and back to her cheek, "Matthew never let me wear any of the clothes I used to own," a single tear prickled from her eye but Shawn caught it halfway through. She took in a sharp breath before continuing, "he made me throw everything out." She shut her eyes and just listened to Shawn's breathing, it always seemed to calm her down.
Shawn's heart broke for Camila. No one should tell her how to dress. His whole body pained at the thought of her in such a toxic relationship. "Tell you what?" His expression was sad but looking at her made him smile, he then kissed her cheek. She nodded her head, smiling slightly at him, "we're going to go to the mall and I'm going to buy you all the clothes you want, anything. You name it," he hugged her, tightly.
"You don't have to do that for me, Shawn," she mumbled into his neck, "I want to," he kissed her again, he felt the smile on her lips against his lips, they pulled apart again, "because I love you," he caressed her cheeks, "I love you too, Shawn."
And from that day on, Shawn promised himself that he'd never let Camila go through anything like that ever again.
