"Let him go baby girl. Let him go and move the hell on. You need to make space in your heart for someone who has the capacity to love you just as much as you love them."

————————————————————————

There were always rumours that Matthew had been just using Camila for the fame and glory that she had but that was something Camila always ignored. She loved the man, they were in love.

Were.

After just a couple months of dating, things were going downhill, fast. He'd hit her, occasionally. It was only when she chose to disobey him. Things like deciding to show too much skin or talk to someone he disapproved of her talking to, particularly Shawn.

Not that Shawn ever did anything to him, he just knew that the man was lovesick for the Cuban and Matthew couldn't bare the risk of him taking Camila right from under his nose.

"Change your outfit, you're showing too much," Matthew spat. She rolled her eyes, hoping he didn't catch that or that he wasn't in the mood to cause her physical harm, "but I'm not even going anywhere," she crossed her arms, blocking his view from the tv that was playing in the background, "I don't care, Camila. You look like a slut," he bent his body over his knees, slightly and forcefully moved her away.

She flinched at his touch, not knowing what he'd do if she didn't change her clothes. It were things like these that would get her in serious trouble. He'd treat her like an unwanted child who'd made one small mistake.

She made her way over to her closet to change as most as she could but she was almost immediately distracted when she'd receive a text from her best friend of 5 years, Shawn Mendes. She could barely see him anymore, she was lucky enough that Matthew even let her keep his contact in her phone.

Shawn
Hey! You going to Taylor's small get together?

Camila
I'll have to ask Matthew.

Shawn
Why do you have to ask?

She changed her outfit to the most unrevealing thing she could, maybe it'd increase her chances of him saying yes.

Against Matthew, she had nothing on him.

"Hey, Matthew?" Her voice, timid. She heard him groan at her voice. She'd be lying if she said that didn't hurt just a little bit, "what?" He swigged some beer, letting it burn his insides, "Taylor is having a small get together, can I go?" She felt stupid for asking.

"No, I know for a fact Shawn will be there. You know how I feel about the two of you," he reclined his seat, showing no interest in their conversation, "there's nothing going on between us," she argued, immediately regretting what she had said, "well he certainly feels something towards you," he pushed himself up from his seat, getting closer to her.

"No he doesn't," she fought back, challenging him now, "Camila, don't play dumb, I don't need a dumb girlfriend!" He roared at her. She almost didn't notice the pain she felt in her wrist as he twisted them with every word, "Or maybe he doesn't want you anymore, maybe he's realized the whore you've become!" He evilly laughed at her before connecting his palm with her cheek, she shrieked in pain.

She sat on the ground, hiding her face in her knees.

Shawn never liked the thought of Matthew dating Camila and his reasoning wasn't just that Matthew had stolen the girl he was in love with, he just didn't seem to appreciate the beauty like he should've.

Shawn also wasn't dumb. He knew that Camila would never just blow him off every time he tried planning something with her just for the sake of doing so and had he mentioned the bruise on her jaw she had failed to hide, she wasn't that clumsy. He knew he had done something. His final hint was when she had to ask for his permission to go out.

Shawn being Shawn, he drove to her house, not caring that he was going to be there, Shawn needed to know that she was okay.

"You're just going to sit there and cry, little slut? You want me to smack you again because I will-" he heard him scream at her.

Shawn's jaw clenched, swinging the door open which revealed a helpless Camila on the ground, "no you won't," Shawn interrupted before knocking Matthew out with just one swing to the face. Shawn's face immediately softened at the sight of a broken and shattered Camila. He bent down to her level, slowly examining her face, moving it around carefully with his delicate hands.

"Mila, let's get out of here, okay?" He placed his hand on her back and helped her up, she still seemed shaken up so he reassured her that he wasn't going to leave and that she could pack everything up without Matthew bothering her. She complied and ran as quickly as she could to pack up her things.

Shawn sensed movement from the douche of a man that disgustingly used Camila as a toy, he heard him groan which put Shawn in a pit of rage, he bent down to Matthew's level, tugging his hair, harshly which forced Matthew to look at the tall and muscular Canadian man that stood over him, "you disgust me, you really think it's okay to hit a women? Let alone Camila? The purest heart? No one, and I mean no one, will touch her like that ever again, especially you. You deserve nothing but hell. How dare you do something like that to the girl I love?" Shawn was angry, no one could blame him. His eyes were dark but Camila would never see that,

"Shawn?" She softly spoke which immediately snapped the Canadian out of his trance, he prayed that she didn't hear what he'd said about loving her. It was true but she wasn't supposed to know that Shawn had hopelessly been in love with her for so long.

"Hey, you ready to go?" His voice was soft, completely different tone than the tone he used with Matthew, she gave him a quick nod.

"Don't you dare try contacting her, you hear me?" Shawn tugged his hair a little harder, earning a small nod from the worthless of a man.

Shawn smiled softly at her. Like a gentleman he took her bags in one hand and her hand in the other, squeezing it for a second for another reassuring gesture.

The car ride was silent for a bit, before Camila had spoken up for the first time in that day that she felt powerful, "was it true what you said?" She looked at him, taking in all his features as he kept his eyes on the road, he laughed slightly, "what did I say?" His goofy smile was something she adored and it always made her melt,

"When you said you loved me," her voice faltering.
