Their friendship started to blossom when they were just seven years old. When the nicest, prettiest (as the boys said it which they were not wrong) girl in the grade decided to sit beside the new kid that had just moved from Pickering, Ontario.

Looking back at it now, Shawn was unquestionably in love with her then. Though, now, he was able to admit it.

Now, as he stands in the middle of the halls of Miami Secondary school, the now seventeen year old captain of the basketball team had finally made the decision to tell his best friend (who was the cheer captain) how he felt about her.

His knuckles clenched themselves until they were white and his body shook. He was nervous, to say the least.

Once he saw his beautiful best friend in her cheerleading outfit, looking as divine as ever, he knew that it was now or never.

She smiled at him and skipped happily his way, wrapping her arms around his neck as his travelled to her waist, breathing in her heavenly scent.

"How was your weekend?" She pulled away, looking at him as she asked her question.

His eyes darted to her neck that had a very visible mark on it. It was a deep shade of red and purple. Shawn wasn't naive, he knew that it was a hickey. He tried hard to not show the disappointment and the brokenness in front of her but he wasn't sure how much longer he could stand before her without breaking down.

"Oh..." he coughed, awkwardly, "it was um...it was...it was good. H-how was yours?" He mentally cursed himself out for acting so foolishly around her. She tilted her head, her face clear with confusion but then she smiled. The smile that killed Shawn yet kept him alive. The smile that once you looked at it, it was like being sent to heaven. She didn't answer, instead she kissed his cheek, much like she always did to indicate that her weekend was well. You'd know somethings wrong when she didn't kiss your cheek. Not that she'd kiss your cheek, unless you were Shawn.

"It looks like you had fun." He made an attempt to hide the bitterness in his voice, pointing towards the bite on her neck.

She blushed, profusely, hiding it with her hand. "Shit...I thought I covered it up better." She shook her head, whipping her school bag to her front side, in search for her concealer.

"Yeah...well, I got to get to class. See you later." He sighed, walking off. Which left Camila utterly confused.

He never walked to class without her and even then, would he at least bid his goodbye with a hug and a kiss on the forehead.

The rest of the day, Camila could sense that he was making keen attempts to ignore his best friend. She tried not to let it faze her but in all honestly, it burned her insides and it hurt her head.

It didn't help that she had utterly fallen in love with her best friend. However, she wasn't able to comprehend that and admit it to herself until Austin Mahone's lips pressed onto her neck and all she could think about was her best friend.

Luckily, Austin was the sweetest about stopping when she had told him to but still, it was too late and a small portion of her neck began to bruise.

Falling in love with Shawn was dourly frightening. She had a great deal of anxiousness coarse through her veins when she thought of him but now that she couldn't even get him to glance at her, scared her.

It was after school hours and both the cheerleading team and the basketball team had practice. One half of the gym was prioritized by Camila's cheer team and the other side was for Shawn's basketball team.

Shawn was struggling to focus on his game when Camila was so close yet so far away. He was only snapped out of his thoughts when he began to listen in on Austin's conversation with another teammate.

"It happened so fast but she wasn't ready...which I understood." Austin sighed and Shawn's blood boiled.

"You guys will try again...right?"

Austin shook his head, "nope. She's into someone else and I respect that. Plus, everyone knows her and Shawn are bound to be together." At the perfect moment, Austin winked at Shawn and flashed him a smile.

Shawn was relieved that he hadn't lost all chances he had with finally getting the girl he loves. It was incredibly agonizing staying away from her all day. There was so much he wanted to say and so much he wanted to do (for example: kiss her) but he couldn't yet. They still had their own things to do but every time he saw Camila laugh or sway her hips, it sent shivers down his spine.

"Camila! Wait!" Shawn ran after her in the empty halls with his gym bag practically falling off his shoulder. She turned on her heel, "oh, so now you'd like to talk to me?" She sassed, which was to be expected.

He sighed, "can you just...please hear me out?" Shawn took her hand in his and smiled gratefully when she didn't flinch or move it away.

She huffed, looking up at him, "fine."

He smiled again but this time, fully interlocking their hands and rushing them outside to their spot under the fairly large cherry blossom tree.

She crossed her arms, "talk."

"I...I love you. I'm in love with you and seeing that mark on your neck...I couldn't bare it-"

"I stopped him but it was too late."

"I know...I know that. I was angry at myself for thinking that I completely lost you." His voice shook and his hands trembled. "You'd never lose me."

Though, he calmed his hands down by placing them softly on either side of her face, their bodies fully pressed up against one another's as her hands drew small patterns onto his muscular back.

"I'm in love with you too." She placed a kiss onto his cheek but only to be met with Shawn's lips instead.

They pulled away, breathless and so deeply in love, "it took us long enough." He joked.

She threw her head back in laughter, "only ten years."
