A divorced couple.

People always assume the worst when it came down to hearing that a child's parents are divorced but for Skylar Marie Mendes, her parents were coparents.

Neither of them could say that they had fallen out of love but the stress of working all the time and not having time for each other became an issue that they couldn't handle. It was immature and it took everything for the two to sign the papers.

It was Mother's Day and Camila didn't have Skylar today. Shawn had just gotten back from tour and Camila thought it would be better for him to spend as much time with Skylar as possible but he didn't realize it was Mother's Day until his daughter brought it up.

"Dada, it's mother's days today, why am I here?" The little four year old girl asked as she was wrapped up in his arms. He cared deeply for his daughter and for Camila. He would do anything to have her back - to have his family back. "W-what?" Shawn pulled apart from his little girl but kept her in his arms, "it's Mama's day but I'm here with you!" She giggled. She was so innocent and thought this was so normal - on the outside but in the inside, she wanted her family to be together. She truly was a smart little girl and she knew how much her parents cared for each other. There were a few time's where she caught her father crying just looking at photos of her mama and the same with her mama.

"I didn't realize, I'm so stupid..." Shawn's voice broke. Just the thought of Camila alone on Mother's Day hurt him. Shawn was determined to make it a good day for her and possibly give her a hint that he wants her back. He sent a quick 'happy mother's day' to his mother and had gotten flowers sent to his mother's door. "What's wrong, dada?" Skylar looked at him with such worry as she was colouring something. "Nothing...Sky, how would you feel if we did something special for mama today?" Shawn knelt down to her level and played with the deep brown curls.

Skylar was the perfect mix of Shawn and Camila. She had Camila's flowing hair with Shawn's crazy curls, she had Shawn's eyes and Camila's nose, she had Shawn's smile but with Camila's laugh and she loved speaking spanish. She was perfect to both of them and Shawn couldn't help but feel guilty that every time he looked at her, he was looking for Camila.

"Yeah! What can I do?" She jumped up and down. "I want you to draw something for mama - something special," Shawn rubbed her back and gave her a new sheet of paper to get started.

As Skylar worked on her masterpiece, Shawn was busy ordering Camila's favourite cuban food to his house. "I'm done, Dada!" She squealed, "let me see, baby," Shawn smiled at the beautiful picture. It was a picture of three people, one was tall with curly hair and a guitar in one hand, next to him was a little girl with in a dress with long curly hair and lastly was her - Camila, she held onto her other hand and they were surrounded by hearts and at the back was a little message from Skylar that Shawn helped her put together.

"Okay, we need to go to the mall - mama deserves some gifts, don't you think?" Shawn extended his hand for her to take. She nodded her head and followed him out the door.

"You think mama will like this necklace?" Shawn lifted her up over the table so she could get a look at it. Skylar nodded enthusiastically, "mama will love it just like she loves you!" Shawn blushed but ignored it as he bought the beautiful necklace.

"Okay now we need sunflowers - a lot of them!" Shawn purchased as many as he could - was it overboard? Maybe. But he wanted today to be special. He bought her a card, himself - with a simple note that said a thousand words.

Shawn had texted Camila saying that Skylar wasn't feeling well. He felt bad that he worried her but he knew that she would get there the quickest and Shawn was dying to see her and actually be able to hang out with her - as a family.

Shawn heard the door barge in and he smiled widely, "Shawn! Is she okay-" she ran into the living room and her jaw dropped when she saw the sunflowers spread out across the living room and the dining table, she smelt the delicious cuban food that she loved, the candles that were lit on the table with a gift bag next to it. Last but not least, she saw Shawn and their daughter - each had a card in their hand. "Oh my god! What is this?" There were tears in her eyes as her eyes fell onto Shawn's. She felt butterflies grow in her stomach at the thought of him doing something as big as this.

"Happy Mama's Day!" They both cheered, she watched Shawn bring Skylar close to him as they walked closer to her. "Here, mama. Read my card first!" Camila laughed at the picture. She wished it was like that.

"Mama,

I love you so much, thank you for everything! I love your cooking! Shawn and I love you so much. Happy mama's day.

-Sky"

Camila read it out loud and took her from Shawn's hands and plastered kisses all over her face, "I love you, mi amore," she whispered, kissing the top of her head before letting her down to play with the toys Shawn had bought her while they were at the store.

"Here, I'm sorry I had Skylar on your special day. I wanted it to be special." She smiled at him and took the card from his hand. The outside was beautiful, a cute little message that went with the card but she opened it and whispered what was said in it.

"Mila,

You are the most incredible mother and I thank you for showing me how to be a better father. You are the most beautiful and pure women I have ever met. Happy Mother's Day. I love you.

Love always, Shawn."

She teared up, reading the part where he said that he loved her. She couldn't help herself but kiss his cheek, she backed away and she saw the blush on his cheeks. She came closer to him and whispered into his ear, "I love you too." It send shivers down his spine.

Dinner was nice and all three of them couldn't stop laughing. It felt natural, as if they sat down and ate dinner with each other everyday. Shawn and Camila both knew that they wanted it that way.

It was the first time that Camila and Shawn could put Skylar to bed together. It was special to both of them. They had divorced before Skylar was born but he was still with her during the birth of his child. But as she got older, they steadied their days with their child.

They came back down and sat on the couch, it was a comfortable silence. They stared at each other, memorizing each other's faces even thought they both knew that they could never get the other one out of their heads. "Oh!" Shawn suddenly spoke, startling Camila which made both of them laugh.

She was in awe of the necklace. It was a simple necklace that Shawn knew that she always wanted. It had her name on it in cursive and Camila was in awe of it. He took the extra step to have it in diamonds. "Oh my god! Shawn! This is beautiful...you didn't have to." She whispered, a tear slipping from her eyes but Shawn quickly wiped it away. She rested her hands on his and kissed them.

"I wanted to. I know how much you wanted it," he kissed her cheek. They were comfortable. "Thank you for everything - for taking so much care of her and being an amazing dad," she smiled at him, squeezing his hand twice.

"Anything for my girls."

That's all it took for Camila to grab his face and kiss him. His hands found her waist as her hands played with his hair. They pulled away for just seconds to say "I love you."

It was safe to say that they weren't a divorced couple for much longer.
