CHAPTER 20: EVERYONE'S GOT A STORY

The boys are rehearsing, meanwhile I'm with Legoshi upstairs, while he repairs a reflector.

I see Legoshi turn on the reflector, but when he does so, he turns it off and opens the grating where the cables are.  I see it turns on just fine. I don't understand what's wrong.

Y/N: What's wrong with it?

Legoshi: Uh ... the light from this reflector takes a while to come on.  I think a cable is loose.

Y/N: Oh I see.

I'd like to help but I don't know about reflectors.  So there weren't many uncomfortable silences, I ask any question that occurs to me.

Y/N: Tell me, For how long have you been the stagehand?

Legoshi: Well ... it's been around four years since I've joined the drama club.

Y/N: Wow, you should know everyone here better than me then.

Legoshi: Well ... yes, I suppose.

Legoshi and I look at the actors, I stare at Louis, who's acting with great determination.

?: Hey Legoshi, what are you doing?

We both turn to see a mongoose that's climbing the stairs.

?: Did you fix the reflector yet? ...Huh?

The mongoose seems surprised to see me with him.

?: Legoshi ... Are you ... socializing... With a girl?

Legoshi gets exalted at the mongoose's comment.

Legoshi: I-It's not what you think Kai.  She is just a uh ... partner.

Y/N: Y-yes!  I'm Y/N and .. yeah we're just .. partners.

The mongoose whose name seems to be Kai is still looking surprised, then narrows his eyes as if he was analyzing us, until later he seems to relax again.

Kai: ... Okay, if you say so. What are you guys doing?

Legoshi: Well, I was explaining her that I've been the stagehand for a while.

Kai: Yeah that's true.

Kai turns to look down and then laughs when he sees Louis.

Kai: Hahaha, Did you hear Louis's speech?

Legoshi: Well yes.  We were all there when he said it.

Kai: Haha, Yea dude how stupid.

Y/N: Uh, stupid

I was thinking of something else like ... motivating or inspiring.

Kai: Well yeah .. I mean .. Coexistence? What a joke!

Legoshi: Keep it down, Would ya?

Legoshi also seems surprised with what Kai said, besides to the fact that he doesn't want Louis to catch him speaking that way.

Kai: He kicked me off the actors theme! What do I care who hears?!

Y/N: Wait, did he really do that?

Kai: Yes!  I was going to fill the role of Tem, but when HE...

He goes silent when he realizes that he named that person. He sighs and leans out the railing to watch the others rehearse.

Kai: I'm not as bitter as I was before though.

Legoshi: I'm glad to hear it.

Legoshi and I leaned against the rail just like him. Kai, wanting to change the subject, turns to see us.

Kai: I was wondering... Have you guys ever thought about joining the actors team?

Well that's a calmer topic of conversation.

Legoshi: Who me?... Never.

Kai: Oh... What about you Y/N?

Y/N: Well, I saw it as a choice, but the truth is that it didn't really interested me.

Legoshi approaches the reflector again so he can keep fixing it.

Kai: Then, you must've been surprised when you were scouted by de advisor.

Legoshi: What?

Kai: You can only join this club if they scout you.

Y/N: Yes, I noticed that in the auditions.

Kai: Yeah it's exclusive to those  who they consider worthy of representing the drama club.

I prefer not to say my true intentions of getting into this group heh.

Legoshi: Hmm ok, But what do they judge you on?

Y/N: Well, I guess it has to do with how you do it, right?

Kai turns to see us and chuckles.

Kai: Haha, Come on.. Don't tell me you joined the drama club without knowing any of this.

Y/N: Uhh ...

Kai sees that we have no idea what he's talking about, so he grumbles.

Kai: For example.... Uhhh... let's take Sheila from the dance team.

We all turn to see Sheila, who's a cheeta.

Kai: At age 14, that cheeta was scouted while she worked part time as a dominatrix out of a carnivore club to get some money.

Uh .. what? I keep listening to Kai, who seems to know everyone and their secrets in some way.  While he speaks, I hear that several had a difficult past, others not so hard ... But that makes me think.  We all have a history, something that has defined and given us purposes in our lives.  I guess I'm not the only one with a dark past.

Kai: And in case you're wondering about me, I'm a mongoose who's abandoned at birth, and raised by a family of hyenas. And the list goes on and on.

Y/N: Oh wow ... that's certainly something.

Kai: Yeah it is...

I look at Legoshi, who has been silent, I see that he is noticing Louis.  I wonder what he's thinking about.

Kai: The drama club is a mixture of unusual characters. Only those with unique circumstances can join. It operates with the general theme of exposing life for what it really is..

He sounds like such a poet.  I can see that he's passionate about the theater.  Why would Louis kick him out from the team? Kai turns to see me, but then turns his gaze to Legoshi.

Kai: So Legoshi.. What's your secret?

Legoshi: .... Whats my secret?

That's something I'd like to know, too, but I doubt anyone would confess so easily. Anyway, whether he killed Tem or not ... I still witness that he almost devoured a rabbit.

Legoshi remains silent and seems to be thinking about what he said.

Legoshi: I uh .. I don't know, I haven't thought about it.

Hm, I figured he'd say that. Kai looks annoyed at his response, then he turns to look at me.

Kai: As for you Y/N .... well, I think everyone already knows yours.

I lower my ears and look to another direction.  The truth is that he doesn't know anything about me.

Y/N: Those are only rumors Kai ....

Kai: Yeah sure..

Uncomfortable silence abounds again. The last rehearsal ends, and Louis walks away before everyone else.  At least I was able to hold the conversation for a bit before it went bankrupt.

Legoshi: I uh .. I have to go ask Louis about the lighting for the play.  So ... I'm leaving.

And just like that, Legoshi leaves, just like the rest, they leave the room.  I also walk off feeling tension between Kai and I.

At least, I was able to approach to Legoshi as his "partner".  It only lacks a little more.
