DESTINED

CHAPTER 9

I groan under my breathe and face down pretend to be scrolling down on my phone.
" Hey Nicole,there's a man who just entered in and he's seated just two tables from us he's staring at you" Caren say.
" Ooh really why would he be staring at me ?" I ask whilst still on my phone. I don't even know what I'm doing on my phone I'm just scrolling to avoid eye contact with Scott.
Scott was or rather was my ex boyfriend.
We had a gross ending and the last person I want to see right now is him.
I caught Scott red handed with one of my course mates, Mandy, she's a hoe to me because she knew Scott and I were dating but still went ahead and slept with him. I don't really want to replay those awful memories,it was the saddest thing I've ever experienced.
Scott and I had plans to watch a movie that evening so he was to pick me up from my room. We used to stay with Maya just a few metres from the school premises.
After the group discussion,I head to my room to take a nap before Scott came by.
At 6pm Scott called and said he had an emergency to attend to, Adrian's sister got an accident so he was accompanying him to the hospital and will not be able to make it to the movies I understood .
Scott and Adrian were roommates just like Maya and I .
Adrian is Maya's boyfriend. So after Scott called I decided to make myself busy ,I switched on my laptop ,I logged into my Netflix account and searched for twilight movie and started to watch. A few minutes later Maya walked in looking happy.
" Are you not accompanying Adrian to see his sister?, Scott just called and said he's accompanying him to see his sister" I asked Maya
" Which sister are you talking about?, Adrian and I have plans,I'm just changing ,he's waiting for me at his place in a few minutes" Maya said
"What?!so Scott is lying to me" I asked loudly.
" Maybe you should go and check and see what he is up to"
I just prayed he would not be cheating on me and that's when I met my worst. He had been so distant of late so after Maya had gone I decided to go straight to their house.
I knocked and got no answer so I just pushed the door and I was met by the worst moments of my life, there was Scott on top of Amanda fucking her brains out.
I just stared blankly at them,called his name,when he turned back to look at me,with horror written on his face, he climbed off her and said " babe Its not what you thinking" he shamelessly said,
" Really after I've caught you red-handed on top of her,you're not even ashamed to tell me it's not what I'm thinking, what do you take me for Scott?I'm I not enough for you" I asked while crying.
" It's not like that ,I'm sorry babe" Scott said
" Nicole I'm sorry" Amanda finally found her tongue.
" Keep the sorry to yourselves you idiots" and with that I ran out, I could not withstand the sight anymore.Ever since ,Scott has been begging for my forgiveness but I cut him off completely until when we graduated and here he is. Just when my day couldn't get more worse.
Our food is served and we start eating in silence,
Just then I Caren taps me and whispers in my ear.
"Look the guy is coming over here"she says
Shit what's wrong with Scott for heaven's sake,I groan.
"Hey ladies, mind if I join you guys?" Scott asks and I sneer in response.
" Not like we invited you here Scott what do you want?"I ask in a bored tone.
" C'mon Nicky cut the crap, your friend here seems friendly ,how is your name miss? He asks
" I'm Caren and please can you let us eat in peace , we're getting late for work and as you can see no one wants you here"
" Okay cool down I was just get going I just wanted to say hae to you guys"
"You already did now get out of here before I call security on you" I say back to him.
Once he's gone ,Caren turns back to me and asks.
" Who is he,I can see you guys hate each other"
" And ex who can't stick his ass to himself he keeps on pestering my life and fucking me up now and then I hate his guts" I answer in a bored tone.
" Wooah that pretty sucks"
After we done with lunch we head back to the office. I take a lift to my floor and go straight to my office.
I release the breathe I've been holding for long and settle down to continue from where I stopped.
Just then the office phone rings and I press the receive button.
"Yes, PARKER'S DRAPERS COMPANY AND LIMITED, how may I help you? I say to the caller
" Mrs Alison come to my office ,we need to finalise the contact " Mr Parker's voice comes through.
" Okay sir"
Once in the office ,he hands me the contract to go through before I sign
I take my time to go through the terms and conditions, the rules but I can't fail to recognize the few glances Mr Parker is giving me secretly,once I'm satisfied,I sign at the end of my name and give back the papers to him.
"Are you satisfied with the starting salary?" He asks.
To be sincere I didn't expect my starting salary to be 86k ,that's too much but I can't tell him that I'm overwhelmed with the amount.
" Yes sir I'm contented thank you"
" Okay then ,you can proceed to your office,I have work to do right now"
With that I close the door behind and go straight to my office.
The rest of the day goes on smoothly and when time for leaving reaches I pass by Caren's desk so we can head out together. We board a bus to home and that's when I realise that we she's just from my neighborhood and thought of us going together to works excites me. Once at we alight I say bye to her and head straight to our house I can't wait to tell Maya how my day went.
