CHAPTER 31

MAYA
Nicole has been my best friend, a sister and an angel to me, she's been there for me wen I need her the most and she's just a true definition of a best friend.

We met back in highschool at Pangani girls high school.
Let me just say, our friendship began from day one. We were both new comers at that school, form ones to be precise, we reported late and we ended up together.
" Hey I'm Nicole, are you done at the dormitory?"
" Hey I'm Maya, no I just reported and I don't know what next from here"
" Seems we stuck with you, my parents just left and I had to sort myself out, our car broke down and we spent the better part of the day waiting for it to be repaired that's why we arrived here this late"
" Ooow such a coincidence, ours also broke down, by the way I'm from Nakuru but we stay in Nairobi"
" Oooh same to me, my home is in Nakuru but my dad works in Nairobi"
And that's how our friendship stroke, we became friends in form one and even after finishing our form four exams ,we ended up joining the same University, University of Nairobi.
She's been like a sister to me and I never failed her either.

I remember when her whole family passed away in a tragic road accident I never left her side, I made sure she pulled out of that situation a strong woman who she is now. I love her and if anything happens to her, I always blame myself for not being a good sister to her.

Ever since she started dating Kyle I've never seen her this happy, she's always in good moods and  I feel happy for her. She insisted on helping me clear the bills even after  begging her to let me cater for the bills. She might be a little bit stone headed  but I love her either way.

Her boyfriend,bought her a car and I'm happy for her, she's yet to join a driving school to get a driving license for her to be able to operate her car. When she told me this morning about her previous day's escapedes I felt for her, I wished I was there to give her a shoulder to lean on.

That incident where she lost her whole family has been a nightmare to her ever since, although she has been acting strong but it's affecting her. I just thanked God for giving her a caring boyfriend.

When I arrive at the house, I find it the very way I left it, I arrange everything, take a shower and get a glass of cold juice from the fridge I switch on the TV and flip through the channels.

I decide to call Nicole and inform her about my arrival but the phone goes straight to voice mail I try again and I get the same thing
I decide to call Kyle to confirm if Nicole is okay , he gave me his number when we were planning to throw Nicole a surprise birthday party, and the line goes to voicemail again, I shift uncomfortably  trying to figure out on  whom to call. I decide to call Adrian.
" Hello baby,Whatsap?"
"Hey love, I'm just trying call Nicole and her phone goes straight to voicemail same to Kyle, you know her boyfriend, she was supposed to be here by now but she's not"
" OMG, is something wrong?"
"I don't know babe, that's what I'm trying to figure out"
" Wait a minute, there's some breaking news on TV, i guess it has to do with the famous billionaire, Kyle"
I don't wait for him to finish the statement, I quickly flip through the channels and settle for one station

BREAKING NEWS
THE FAMOUS BILLIONAIRE, MR KYLE WALKER ALONGSIDE HIS GIRLFRIEND, NICOLE ALISON HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A FATAL CAR ACCIDENT, ALONG NAIROBI-MOMBASA ROAD.
IT'S REPORTED THAT THE CAR WAS HIT OFF THE ROAD FORCEFULLY BY A DIFFERENT CAR, WHICH WE YET TO KNOW THE OWNER. THE CAR ROLLED SEVERALLY TIMES BEFORE LANDING IN A VALLEY JUST ALONG THE ROAD. THEY ARE ALL ALIVE BUT IN A CRITICAL CONDITION. THE POLICE ARE STILL DOING THEIR INVESTIGATIONS.

I stare at the TV blankly not knowing what to do. At least they're not dead, I wonder what I would have done if they died in that's accident and who wanted them dead is the big question.

I have a driving license, so I'll just drive Nicole's  car to the hospital. They're both admitted in their private hospital just a few minutes drive from our apartment.

I change into blue jeans a T-shirt and a hood, I out on my rubbers and I head out half running half walking, I don't have  enough time to change into something more presentable. I carry the car keys,make sure I've closed the door behind me and I start the car in a moderate speed unless I want to be found on the wrong side by the police.

After 30 minutes I'm already running at the hospital. I find one nursing just heading out and I approach her
" Excuse me, I'm here to see Mr Parker and Mrs Alison,they were just admitted a few minutes hours ago"
" Sorry who are you"
" I'm the sister to Nicole"
" Sorry you'll only be allowed to see them after Mr Richard's permission, his the dad and the owner of this hospital, he left strict instructions"
" It's okay I'll just wait for him, where are they at the moment"
" They were just headed to the surgery room, Nicole's both legs were broken and she has a few broken ribs, and for Kyle, he hit his head hard, he  might be having a concussion but the doctors are working on that"
" It's okay thanks, I'll just wait"
With that she walks away. I sit in the waiting room defeated I can't loose them, is the only thing I'm hoping right now. I'm just lost in my own world.
