You woke with a start. A tear running out of your eye as you did. The events of the trial still echoing in your mind.
You got up, but a soft hand touched your shoulder as you did.
"Hey, hey, hey. Lie back down. Y/N. It's okay. It's me."
You looked as your vision was still getting adjusted to the light in the room.
Auburn, almost ginger looking hair. Red lips curving into a slight smile. Brown eyes looking into yours.
Caitlin.
"What happened?"
"You...went through your trial and you blacked out."
"How long?"
She paused for a few seconds.
"Two days."
You lay back. More days lost.
Her hand enveloped yours. You looked over to her.
"I told you...I was gonna tell you about...everything. Why we trust you, why we kept you alive and why..."
You looked over to her. Doubt in her eyes. A blush on her cheeks. What was this about?
"But I can't do that alone. And not here. You wouldn't believe me."
You smiled. "Try me. As if the last couple of days have been so normal for me." She looked behind her as Nora entered the room.
"Nora. Will you help me show Y/N? About what we talked about?"
"Caitlin. I'm not even sure if we should right now. We don't know what it could do to the timeline."
Caitlin's expression showed sadness.
"Oh for the love of GOD people!", Cisco walked in.
He walked over to you.
"You wanna know what she's talking about?"
You nodded. Uncertain what he meant. He turned to Caitlin.
"And you really want to show him the truth? Of the future?"
She nodded slowly.
"He should know. And make a decision himself. Whether he wants that future."
Cisco turned to you. He laid his hand on your arm. Then held his other to Caitlin.
"You know when to think of.", he said.
*When* to think of? What did he mean?
Caitlin put her hand on his and it felt for a second as if your breath was taken away. Your vision started to flicker. As if you were being...transported?
A blue-ish vision. What was this? This looked like Central City.
"Cisco? What did you do?"
"I did what Caitlin asked me to do."
She walked in front of you.
"Y/N. The reason we trust you. It is because of this moment. Follow me."
You followed her. Her steps seemed unsure. Slow. Doubtful.
"Caitlin.", you reached for her hand. "What are you gonna show me?"
Her voice seemed to shake. "A moment. Very dear to me over these past few years."
The sadness. You felt it, even though you couldn't see her face.
She pulled her hand back and kept walking. Her high heels clicking on the pavement. For some reason...you liked that sound. Even at a time like this, where everything went awry... It soothed you.
"It's not far anymore.", Cisco said.
You guys walked up to a large building.
"What is this place?", you asked.
"This. This is the moment I learned of you. Y/N.", Caitlin said.
You saw the door of the building open. You and Caitlin were running out of it. In front of both of you the caped man landed, his dagger glowing.
"Cicada! You get away from her!", the other you yelled as he got in front of Caitlin.
"What are you guys showing me?", you asked.
Caitlin had tears running down her face. You looked back at the scene unfolding before your eyes.
"She's a meta. She needs to die."
"Well I'm a meta too! So tell you what. Try getting past me. You're not getting me that easy!"
You're not getting me that easy. Those words.
'You talked during your coma. Once. You know that?'
'Those words, the way you said them. It affirmed something to me.'
You looked back at the scene.
Cicada went towards you. Caitlin started running away. And you were about to strike each other.
And the vision ended.
You looked at Caitlin who wiped away a tear and started walking out.
"Caitlin...", you said. Weakly.
Cisco just looked at you.
"How does that fight end?", you asked.
"We don't know. That's the worst bit. But she's too scared to even further look at it. I mean, Cicada has the means to stop any meta powers from working."
"Why is she so sad?"
"I'm...guessing you didn't notice the ring on her hand in that vision, did you?"
"Ring?"
"Y/N. In that vision. She's your...fiancée."
"I'm sorry, I'm sure the vision messed with my hearing for a second, I thought I just heard you say that in the future she's my..."
"Fiancée.", Cisco finished your sentence.
Now you understood. The way they trusted you. The blushing. The museum stories. Uncle Y/N. It all clicked.
"Speed lab?", you asked Cisco.
"Either that or Jitters."
You ran off to find her. Your future fiancée. Caitlin Snow.
Time skip to where you find her in the speed lab, sitting at the same place you sat down a few days ago.
"Caitlin..."
She looked up at you, her eyes were red from the tears.
"I'm sorry, Y/N. I just couldn't-", you interjected. How couldn't you? Her sadness over you. Her faith in you. You ran up to her and kneeled in front of her, looking her in the eyes.
"No."
"W-what?"
"You, Caitlin, do not get to apologize. You, who trusted me. Who helped me. Who stood by my side during the trial."
She looked to the ground.
"I get it now. The ring. You and Nora smiling at each other knowingly. Uncle Y/N.", you laughed a little at the last one.
"I don't want you to feel like...this was forced upon you. I don't want you to feel like you're forced to make that future the real future."
You grabbed her hand. She looked in your eyes.
"Caity.", when you said that word you saw her eyes sparkle, maybe just a little bit, maybe it was your imagination.
"I feel like it might take a while. But I'm sure I can...' warm-up' to that future. With you".
She smiled at you.
"You know what I need right now?", you asked.
"What's that?"
"A good cup of Jitters' new Flash coffee. Would you care to join me?", you smiled at her. She never let go of your hand during that conversation.
"I'd love that.", she smiled at you, her eyes sparkling a little bit more.
