Caitlyn walked into the S.T.A.R. Labs elevator. As she waited to descend to the lab, she started reminiscing about last night.

Y/N looked so hurt by her words as she walked away last night. Frost had scolded her. Frost of all people! That she had reacted too strongly.
While she was sure of the fact she had a point, she felt unsure if she conveyed it correctly.
As the elevator dinged, she walked to the open doors.

She would talk to them. Just like in the hospital. Talk things over.
As she turned into the lab, she saw Y/N was missing.
She quickly ran out, thinking he had left completely. But when she passed the speed lab, she heard music.

'Look out for yourself!
I wake up to the sounds,
To the silence that allows,
For my mind to run around,
With my ear up to the ground.'

As the beats emanated while she looked in, she saw you in the armor. You had set the training program to higher difficulties. More targets, moving targets as you moved and swung your way through them, in an attempt to blow off steam.

'Tell you you're the greatest.
But once you turn, they hate us.'

The music was set very loud, just so you could drown out your own thoughts. Love or not, you had to get stronger. Had to be able to stop him. If not for Frost or Caitlyn, then for the people living in this city.

'Oh, the misery.
Everybody wants to be my enemy.
Spare the sympathy.
Everybody wants to be.
My enemy-y-y-y-y.'

You summoned the hoverboard and flew through some rows of targets, slicing through them with your blade as you passed.
You flew around the place, going after one target after another.
Your score racked up higher and higher.
The entire night you had been practicing.
As the music played loudly and you fought on, the targets all of a sudden disappeared and the music stopped.
You looked over to see Caitlyn at the controls.
You walked up to her.
"Put it back on. I need to keep training."
"No. What you need to do is rest."
"I don't need rest. I don't need anything. I just need to get stronger. Better. Faster. If I don't people will die."

Your voice had a hint of exhaustion and a ton of frustration.
Caitlyn wouldn't have it.
"If you don't rest, you'll die! Have you forgotten your promise?"
"You needed time. I needed training.", You responded dryly.
As you moved to turn the simulation on again, she placed her hand on your arm.
You looked over to see her nearly in tears.

"Y/N. I didn't mean it like that. I was...scared. When you came in like that, I...I thought I would lose you. I genuinely believed you were going to die and that...that we'd have to face Cicada without you."

You looked into her eyes. What you saw, instead of the anger and disdain you expected, was sincere concern and guilt. You looked down to the controls.

"I'm sorry...", Was all you uttered.
You desummoned the ormor to show your own body once more.

"When I was fighting that boss. I felt...comfort.", you admitted.
Caitlyn looked somewhat shocked but still held onto you.
"I felt as if I was in a flow. As if every step, every strike, every moment felt like a plan I had to follow. But when you were in danger..."

You put your hand on top of hers, grabbing it.
"My mind couldn't fathom the thought of...of continuing without you."

You both sat down on the steps and talked things over for a good while.

"You wanna know why I want to be a hero? Why I pretend to be?", You ask.
She listens attentively and nods.

"Remember the trial? The coffin? That was... That was the one person I couldn't save. All I had to do was talk to him or text him and he wouldn't have..."
You choked up. Talking about it, even after all these years made you do that.
"He took his own life. Because things went worse for him in his life. But he had such a bright future. When I saw that coffin in the trial I just...remembered. Every word. Every moment. And I just wanted to do better now."

You turned to her as she took your hands in hers.
"I want to be able to save you from Cicada. That's why I need to train.", You told her.
"But not like this. Not at your expense.", She smiled and kissed your lips softly.

When she let go, she smiled and asks: "Better?".
You just chuckle and look into her beautiful eyes.
"So much better.", You replied.

As both of you make your way to the med bay to check on Barry, you notice XS passing by in a hurry.

"Yo! Where's the fire?", You asked with a smile.
The smile faded when you saw her worried expression as she turned.
"Hey. What's up, kid?", You asked concerned.
"It's Cicada.", She said.

Timeskip to XS, Caitlin and you standing in the lab

"He's going to kill someone. I wanna stop him."
XS was laying out her plan.
You would be awaiting him on a rooftop as XS led him to you.
"You sure the both of us will suffice?", You asked.

"Yes. The three of us should be able to put a stop to him.", She exclaimed.

Caitlin seemed to shift uncomfortably, which you took notice of.
"Okay. Well, you go prep the route before we leave. I'm gonna get ready in the speed lab.", You said with a smile.
"Thanks, Uncle Y/N."

As she sped off, you turned to Caitlin.
"Somethings going on in that pretty head of yours. Penny for your thoughts?"
"If we're going to stop Cicada now, then my vision won't come true. What effect would that have on the timeline?"
"Who knows? XS has succeeded in doing crazier things."
"Y/N. I'm serious. Messing with the timeline is dangerous."
You took her hand in yours.
"If it means that I get to save you earlier. I'd be happy to."
You kissed her softly as you pulled her closer.

"Come on. Let's go gove the kid a hand.", You smile at her.

Timeskip to the rooftops

You stood behind a chimney, ready for when XS would return with Cicada.
You had your armor on while Frost stood not too far away behind a small elevated roof.
"XS is on her way. Get ready, handsome."
Your heart always fluttered when she called you that.
But your brief moment of peace was disturbed when XS arrived, with Cicada in tow.

As he landed, he looked at XS as they circled on opposite ends.
As he moves past you, you and Frost surround him, Frost having her ice at the ready, you pointing your blade to him.

"Drop the weapon.!", Yoy yelled.
He simply turned as you now got a good look at his mask. It was just like the future view you had seen with Caitlin.
"Make me.", He replied calmly.

Frost blasted snow at him whilst XS ran at him.
You jumped on your hoverboard and flew towards him, blade at the ready.
Frost's ice was stopped with no issue by the knife he wielded.
He punched XS out of the way as you were making your approach, landing her in front of Frost.

Frost knelt down before he suddenly turned and threw the knife at XS. XS got out of the way, leaving Frost to be hit by it.
Everything seemed to slow down as you saw the life seep out of Frost as she slowly fell onto her back and she smiled one last time at you.

You cried out. You couldn't save her. In this tiny window of time, which to you lasted an eternity, you cried out for help to something. Anything.

You dropped on top of him as anger and hatred got the better of you.

"You! Why?! She didn't need to die!! She didn't!"

He simply laughed, his voice echoing around you.

You lifted your claymore as you readied the final blow.

"Die, Cicada."

As you blink before letting the blade down upon him, you stand back at S.T.A.R. Labs, in the hallway outside the speed lab.
You turn to see Caitlin behind you as you regain your breath.
You leap at her and hug her tightly.
"You're alive...", You whisper.
"Um. Yeah. I definitely am. I wasn't on the point of dying. Unlike someone else."
You take a steo back and look at her as realisation hit you.

XS turned back time. But you could still remember.
