Path of redemption

You stood in front of STAR labs once again.

You looked up. Unsure about whether or not you even wanted to go back in. What would Barry say?

You felt a hand softly hold yours. You looked to the side to see Frost standing there with a smile.

"You're not chickening out, are you?"

You smiled at her.

"I'm just not sure what he'll say."

"Do you care about that? Aren't you here to show him through actions? Not words?"

You turned to her, smiling. Then you lean in and kiss her softly.

"Whatever would I begin without you?"

"I know. Now come on. Let's go."

As you both walked in and got into the elevator, you started getting a bit more anxious with each level you went down.

But the feeling of Frosts hand intertwined with yours did help.

As the elevator came to a halt, you both walked in and made your way to the core.

"He's a monster, Iris! We let him out! What if he kills someone else next? And I'm not fast enough? What will we do then?"

Barry was walking around frantically. You had a feeling you knew exactly who they were talking about.

"A monster, huh?"

Your voice was soft yet audible. Barry turned to look at you.

"Y/N... I'm sorry. You weren't supposed to hear that."

"It's fine. I'm here to prove I'm not the bad guy. Not the monster."

You held Frosts hand just a bit tighter. You knew this was bound to happen, but you just needed to stand your ground.

"I can't let you go out there Y/N. What if they get hurt? Will you lose yourself then?", Barry said, pointing at Frost.

"Wouldn't you, if it were Iris?"

Silence fell across the room. You saw Barry looking down to the floor.

"I've heard the stories. Of Savitar. And how he woul've killed Iris. Tell me, Barry. You've gone to great lengths to save her. Didn't you?"

"That was different."

"If it was really her. What would you've done?"

"Y/N...", you heard Frost softly whisper.

You sigh. "I'm sorry. I just... Not a day goes by without me thinking about that 'vibe' Frost and Caitlin had. And I know for a fact that I'm not sure what I'll do if they...if they..."

You had difficulty saying it. As if it was taboo.

"I can't imagine a life without anyone here. You guys have become a family to me. A better family than I could've wished for. So to lose part of that..."

Your breath was getting short. You felt sadness, anger, fear, fury, just at the thought of it. But it all went away as soon as she laid her hand on your shoulder as gentle as ever.

You looked at Frost. Her lips mouthed 'It's okay.' As she looked into your eyes.

You turned to face Barry. "I'm not losing anyone anymore. That is done. I'm gonna start saving whoever I can."

Barry's face showed uncertainty. "At what cost, Y/N?"

You looked to the floor. You didn't want to answer that question.

"That's quite enough, Barry.", Iris said in a calm voice.

"Y/N. Barry isn't entirely wrong. But I think we all know that losing someone so close to us could send a lot of us into very difficult emotions and bad states of mind."

She walked up to you.

"Let's get started on putting you back on track.", Iris said with a smile.

You looked up at Barry.

"Show me. Show me how to not get lost. Show me the right path. You've done this for far longer than any of us."

He put on a small smile as he nodded. "Alright. We will."

Timeskip to a week later

You and Barry had been tracking this meta a few days now.

Another so called speedster. You flew up straight next to him on your summoned board, all armoured up again.

"Hey man! Funny running into you like this!", you said, very confident.

He tried moving to the side but was pushed back by Barry who had now caught up to his other side.

This speedster wasn't nearly as fast as Barry, so keeping up was easy.

"Hands off. I saw him first!", Barry joked.

"You saw him first, because I told you about him after seeing him myself! Don't get it twisted!"

You two were just having fun after being back out in the field.

You felt alive again. Your heart beating. Adrenaline rushing through your veins.

You heard a form of growl coming from the meta. "I'll head to the past and kill you as a child!"

"Is he fast enough for that, Flash?"

"Nowhere near fast enough!", he laughed.

He quickly attempted to run up a building, where I simply hovered up and grabbed him by the neck, lifting him into the air.

"Where are you going so fast? You can't run.", you say, confidence ringing in your voice.

"Are you gonna kill me now then, you monster?"

His words shattered your confidence in a patter of seconds.

"Well? Do it then, freak!"

"I've changed.", you said determined.
"We've got a place for the likes of you."

"Oh, have you?", he spat from under his blue-blackish mask.

"I hear different. On the streets. A suit of armor patrolling the streets. Killing innocent and guilty alike."

Your eyes went wide. How? How could this be? That wasn't you. So who could it be.

"Where?"

"Sorry?"

"Where did you last see him?!", you yelled into his face.

He looked visibly scared now. "The suburbs. Under the bridge with the train tracks. He killed a few homeless and walked off."

You hovered down on your board and handed him to Barry. He smiled at you, unknowing of what had transpired.

"Nice work!"

You kept silent.

"What's wrong?"

"Not here. At the base.", you said simply.

You hovered up and flew off. But not to the base.

Time to take a look in the suburbs.

His words shattered
