i always wondered what would have happened if nancy responded to amelias text this is a lot sweeter than the reality of what would of happened but i think sister relationships are sweet and i hate to see them end poorly.
'Are you at the hospital?' Amelia sent to her eldest sister.
'Yes. Why?' Nancy texted in response to Amelia.
'Can we talk?'
'There are benches outside the hospital by the park meet me there.'
Amelia then put her phone into her pocket, and tried to find her way around. After looking around at a map and asking someone in close proximity to her she finally found her way. She sat quietly on the bench waiting for her sister so that she could apologize.
"Hello." Nancy said as she sat down next to her sister.
"Hey, I'm sorry about last night." Amelia said as she picked at the skin around her nail.
"I was very embarrassed for you." Nancy replied looking straight ahead.
"I humiliated everyone last night." Amelia chuckled.
"Yeah you did." Nancy commented, leaving the air quite for awhile until she spoke up again. "Why did you and Owen end?"
"What do you have a bet for the reason too?" Amelia questioned with a snarky manner.
"Maybe, and I'm just curious."
"Hmph, what did you bet your money on?"
"I put 45 on him not being able to handle you and him leaving." Nancy said looking to her sister to see if that stirred a reaction from her sister.
"You know, Derek really liked Owen and I together. I mean I loved Owen but I think that had a lot to do with why I married him." Amelia said still looking down, avoiding looking at her sister.
"That didn't answer the question."
"I don't know, the brain tumor, the fact that he was in love with his best friend, and there was something he just couldn't understand."
"Well..No one won the bet, unless he cheated on you with the best friend." Nancy said looking to Amelia again to try to get a silent response from her.
"Not technically."
"Hmm."
"So how have you been?" Amelia asked.
"I've been really good. I miss Derek though and I wish I would've stayed in touch more after the whole Addison thing. My kids fight a lot with one another which is normal but some times they take it too far and I have to bring up Derek. And how they should value the time they have with one another." Nancy said holding back tears.
"Yeah, after the divorce everyone drifted. Especially during the holidays before that I don't remember a signal Christmas we weren't all together. Even with med school and residency." Amelia said reflecting back on all the Shepherd Christmases.
"We should start that up again. It wouldn't be the same without Derek, but still."
"Yeah, it'd be nice. So how has everyone been?"
"Yeah, oh my god you probably don't know. Liz is going to be a grandma." Nancy said laughing
"What! I haven't been gone that long how old is her oldest 18?"
"17, Liz lost her ever loving mind when she found out. But now she has been pretty supportive of it."
"That's crazy, I've missed a lot." Commented Amelia.
"Yeah you have. So are you going to explain about who Betty and the baby are."
"Hmm I'd prefer not."
"Oh come on Amy I just told you a secret not even mom knows that."
"First off that wasn't your secret to tell. And does mom seriously not know?" Amelia questioned staring at her sister in shock.
"No mom doesn't know yet, you know Liz's whole mom doesn't love me deal." To this Amelia laughed, it was only human nature for Liz to feel that way being the middle child.
"Well, Owen started fostering this baby and he knew nothing about it so I went over to help him. We were divorced at this point. And it just kind of worked and then we met Leo's birth mom, Betty. 15, an addict so of course she knew everything." That comment releasing a laugh from Nancy. "And so we took her in and then it worked for awhile until it didn't."
"If it was good then why did it stop working?" Nancy questioned, invested in what she was listening too.
"Betty went back to her parents, we almost lost Leo, his best friend is pregnant with his baby. It's just too complicated."
"The Amy I know lives for complicated." To this comment Amelia chuckled a little bit.
"Well, I have Link it's nothing serious but we have a good time. And then I'm helping Mer with the kids. It's really all I need. And I'm excelling in my field it's good, truly." Amelia said smiling to her sister.
"I'm glad Amy." Nancy said smiling to her sister engulfing her in a hug. "Wait when did the best friend get pregnant?"
"Oh I don't even know." Amelia said laughing. "Do you still talk to Addison."
"Of course I do Amy, we still go to an OB/GYN conference every year. What about you?"
"A little bit here and there. I miss her though, I should go visit her some time. Have you been to LA to see her?" Amelia asked curious, knowing she never went when she was there.
"Yeah, I met Henry. Sweet little kid." Nancy commented, Amelia then checked her watch and realized the time.
"I have a plane to catch. I love you Nancy." Amelia said engulfing her sister in yet another hug which was surprising.
"I'm proud of you Amy." Nancy said blowing her a kiss as she walked away.
