"It's taking too long isn't it?" Link asked as he paced the waiting room.

"No, I'm sure it's fine. Sit down Link." Amelia held her hand out for her boyfriend. He reluctantly took it, and then sat down in the chair next to her. They sat there in silence for a couple of minutes before Link stood up.

"Do you want coffee?"

"Yes please."

"Okay." Link made his way outside to the coffee cart they favored. Amelia stayed in the waiting area keeping her eye on the door to see if someone would come out with any new information.

"Hey, where'd Link go?" Meredith asked, sitting down next to Amelia.

"Coffee." That's all she could say. She didn't even look at Meredith, her eyes were glued to the door.

"It's scary, when your baby is in surgery. Scouts going to be okay though." Meredith put her hand on her sisters thigh.

"There's a chance that this won't work."

"And we will cross that bridge if we come to it."

"It's taking too long." Amelia bit down the last of her nails.

"It is taking a little longer I'm sure they're just being extra cautious."

"Here." Link said coming up behind his girlfriend her.

"Thanks Link." He nodded to her and greeted Meredith.

"Any word?" Link anxiously asked sitting down next to Amelia.

"Nope, Mer could you go check to see what's going on?" Amelia asked turning to her sister.

"Yeah I can go do that." Meredith responded while getting up and heading toward the double doors. When she got to the OR they were closing. "How did it go?"

"Not great, it's going to keep him stable but we should get him on the liver transplant list. We knew going into this he would probably need one sooner or later. Looks like sooner though." Hayes said as he stripped from his sterile clothes.

"Crap." Was all Meredith could say. The pair went to go talk got the couple. Both having a hundred questions. The pair then left the couple to themselves giving them the room number of where their son was.

"The surgery was a bad idea." Link said as he paced the room.

"It wasn't a bad idea, Link. Not every surgery is successful. It was the best option." Amelia bit back.

"Well you shouldn't have made the decision to consent to a surgery for our son without talking to me. Amelia that's what we do we talk." Link was losing his temper.

"You were in surgery, the decision needed to be made so I signed the papers. And if it was such a concern you could have said something there was time before he was in surgery you could've spoke up."

"Whatever, I'm going for a walk."

"Link, why are you so mad? There's no reason." She asked as he walked away ignoring what she said. She must have been sitting there alone for awhile because she was startled when Hayes and Meredith walked into the PICU. Hayes started talking before Meredith interrupted him.

"Shouldn't we wait for Link?" Amelia shook her head saying it was fine, causing Meredith to shoot her a look of question. Hayes informed Amelia on how he was doing and his status on the transplant list. Amelia thanked him as he left the sisters in the room with the baby.

"Where's Link?" Meredith questioned sitting in the vacant seat across from Amelia.

"No idea, he said he was going for a walk." Amelia said not looking at Meredith, her eyes intently focused on her son.

"I can stay here while you go look for him."

"I'm staying here."

"Well, I'm on call tonight I'll stay with him. You should go home and get some sleep. The transplant process is long and hard especially on the parents, you know this."

"I'm staying here." Amelia reaffirmed more harshly.

"Okay, whatever you say." Meredith left Amelia alone, sensing the terrified mom was getting annoyed with her presence. She made her way to the coffee cart after her failed attempts at finding Link, when she looked across the street at the bar. She found Link there sitting in a corner of a booth. "Hey, how are you holding up?"

"Fine." Link bitterly said.

"It's only 12 in the afternoon."

"I'm aware."

"Shouldn't you be with your family?" Link didn't respond to Meredith, he only sipped his drink. "Amelia needs you, and you need her. It's the only way you two are going to get through this."

"She doesn't need me she's perfectly capable of making all the decisions for our son without talking it over." Link sighed finishing off his drink. "She makes all the shots. It's really just her and Scout. I'm just there, all she needed me for was genetic material. She doesn't need me."

"First off your drunk. Secondly, Amelia loves you more than anyone she's been with, I can tell. But she's just terrified especially with what's happened with Christopher. So she's moving quick. You need to go talk to her. Once you've sobered up." Link nodded in response and walked to their apartment. He packed a bag of clothes for the pair and anything he thought they may need. He also made sure to grab their sons favorite stuffed animal. He made his way back to the hospital, enjoying to cool air in result of the rain that just came through. He made his way up to the PICU and found that Amelia was asleep in the chair.  He gently shook her shoulder waking her up.

"Can we talk?"

"Are you drunk?" Amelia questioned groggily, she could smell the alcohol on his breath.

"I'm sobering up, can we talk though."

"No Link. Not right now." Link only nodded and sat on the other chair in the room. Scout had started to cry when Amelia went to go pick him up and hold him, being aware and careful of the wires and the incision. Link really needed to talk and apologize for everything that had happened within the previous 24 hours, it just really hit him the anxiety she must feel since her previous loss of Christopher.

"I know you don't want to talk, but I'm sorry."

"I know you are "

"We'll talk later?"

"We'll talk later."
