"I thought I'd find you two in here." Link said as he came into the OR gallery."Yeah, Mer is doing a mini liver implantation." Amelia said holding her sons hands as he shakily stood in front of her. "How was your surgery?"
"It was good, it's gonna be a long recovery but they should be fine. It's so weird working on kids, I never minded before but now I just hate it." Link said as he ruffled his sons wispy hair.
"Yeah I don't think we're gonna get used to that."
"How's your research coming along?" Link questioned leaning back in the gallery chair propping his arms behind his head.
"I'm putting it on pause for a little while. I need more time with this cute little baby." Amelia leaned down to kiss her sons head.
"Are you sure? You love your research. I can cut back on my elective procedures to spend more time with our little guy."
"Well I love Scout more. And you cutting back on your procedures wouldn't give me more time with him. I need every minute I can with him, he already likes you better."
"He doesn't like me better. I'm sure he loves us equally. Don't ya bud, you wouldn't want to hurt one of your parents feelings." Link said tickling his sons abdomen.
"That's something a mother says to her kids. Scouts brain is not complex enough to care about loving us equally. He just thinks 'oh my dad is more fun. It doesn't matter that my mother carried me for nine months and fed me everyday since' ." Amelia said in her baby voice.
"Your being a little ridiculous." In return Amelia playfully bumped her shoulder into her boyfriend. "Oh I totally forgot there was a scan I wanted you to look at of this dudes spine. Let me go get a tablet."
"Oo, that's one irritated disk. I've never seen one this irritated." Amelia said taking the tablet into her hands letting go of her sons. "I think the best bet is to just remove that disk using an anterior cervical discectomy and then a fusion."
"Okay thanks. I was really at a lost. I didn't know if it was radical enough to where we need to remove the whole disk." Amelia handed the tablet back to her boyfriend, and reached down to grab her sons hands but when she grabbed for them he wasn't there.
"Link, look." Amelia gasped, there son was standing up against the glass looking down at the OR. "We missed his first steps."
"Oh my god." Link gasped and went to pick up his son and shower him in kisses. "You such a big strong boy."
"No Link! This is terrible we missed it!" Amelia was trying to maintain her cool, but she was on the verge of tears.
"It's not like he was in daycare. He was with us."
"But we didn't see it! We didn't get to cheer him on!" Amelia took her son from Links arms and held him tight whispering apologies.
"Oh Amelia it's okay. He walked though! He is growing up, aren't you bud."
"Link it's terrible! He shouldn't be growing up he should stay a little baby forever." Scout was starting to pull his mothers hair while laughing.
"And he doesn't even care about me.""Come on Amelia. He loves you. Your the only one who can calm him down and the only one he wants to snuggle with when he's sick."
"Yeah, because he wants me to get sick with him." The comment caused the couple to burst out in laughter.
"He loves you Amelia, and I love you." Link said kissing his girlfriend.
"Can you do your PDA elsewhere? I'm doing a medical miracle down here." Merediths voice boomed through the gallery's speaker. This caused the couple to laugh even harder.
"Alright let's go. We got to get this guy down." Link said wrapping his arm around his girlfriend to leave.
"Good Luck Mer!" Amelia said before the family of three made their way back home.
