"You ready for work?" Link asked as he walked into their sons room."Something is wrong with scout." Amelia said holding their son.
"What? What's wrong?" Link asked frantically, placing his hand in their sons forehead. "He isn't warm."
"I know, something is just off. He isn't himself. Doesn't he look a little jaundicey to you?"
"No not really. He just isn't screaming his head off." Link laughed. "He is fine, he's just mellowing out."
"Link I don't think so."
"He's fine trust me. Let's get to work." Amelia reluctantly obliged and the three made their way to the hospital.

"How's your day going?" Link asked Amelia as the pair leaned against the nurses station.
"It's good I had to fight Koracick for a case, but inevitably I won. I'm about to scrub in." She smirked.
"Of course." Link smiles at his girlfriend. "I'm going into a pretty lengthy surgery, so I probably won't be home until the morning I've got to monitor the guy."
"Okay, Scout and I will be fine. Gotta go into surgery. Good Luck." Amelia kissed her boyfriend before making her way to OR 3. Everything was going smoothly. She had opened the patient up and was about to start on the surgery when Koracick scrubbed in. "Tom, I don't need your assistance get out."
"I'm taking over. Scrub out Shepherd."
"Your joking right?"
"Scout can't stop crying in daycare. Meredith is checking him out in peds." Amelia abruptly turned her head to look at her mentor.
"Oh god." She carefully handed the instruments to a scrub nurse and then ran out of the OR, striping of her sterile clothes. When she got to the peds floor she frantically asked a nurse where her son was and she directed her towards the room. Before she walked in she could already hear her sons cries. "What do we know?"
"He is showing signs of jaundice." Amelia's heart dropped, she knew she should've done something when she first had her suspicions.
"Okay? What do you think it is?"
"I want a blood sample but he won't stop crying or sit still, hold him." Amelia went over to the exam table and sat down putting the baby into her lap and holding his arm out steady. She cooed to him trying to calm him down, and once Meredith drew his blood the screaming only got worse.
"Your okay, your okay." Amelia kept repeating to her son. Where the hell was her boyfriend? He should be here maybe he could soothe their son. "Where's Link?"
"They can't page him, there's no one to replace him in the OR. I'm going to take this to the lab, and then we're gonna do an ultrasound." The boys mother only nodded in response.
"What are you thinking this is?"
"Could be a number of things, Amelia. Let's just be patient." Meredith tried to be comforting, her stress levels were rising she shouldn't be on her nephews case. "I'm gonna give this case over to Dr Hayes. I shouldn't be in this."
"So you think there is something wrong? This isn't just a cold?"
"Let's just wait for the results." Meredith wearily smiled.

"I'm thinking he has biliary atresia." Meredith told Hayes as he looked over the chart and labs.
"Most likely, labs are pointing to that direction. I need an ultrasound to confirm." Hayes stated. "I'll go in there and do that now."
"Thanks." Hayes nodded in response before walking into the exam room.
"Hey little guy." Hayes greeted walking into the room with the ultrasound machine in tow. He was calmer than before laying on his back. His mother rubbing soothing circles across his abdomen. He then directed his attention towards Amelia. "We're going to do a ultrasound, and look at his liver."
"Did his labs show signs of biliary atresia?" Amelia asked as she rolled up her sons shirt to expose her sons belly.
"Yes, this ultrasound is just confirming that diagnosis." While she was sitting with her son she was going back to her residency days trying to figure out what was wrong with her son, and she knew this diagnosis was likely and she knew possible treatment plans but at the moment she just felt like a terrified mother. "Yeah, we definitely have a case of biliary atresia. We can do a Kasai procedure tonight, sooner the better."
"Okay, thank you."
"I'll be back in a little bit when the OR and paperwork is in order." Amelia nodded politely and thanked the pediatric surgeon. She was internally panicking. She sat beside her son for what seemed like hours in silence. He had stopped crying and was peacefully sleeping.
"Why didn't they page me?" Link asked breathlessly as he came into the room. He must have ran from the OR once his surgery was done and someone had told him what was happening.
"There wasn't anyone to replace you in the OR, you know protocol."
"What's wrong?"
"Biliary atresia. Hayes is going to take him into the OR in a couple of hours. Who is monitoring your patient?"
"I've got a couple residents on it. Hopefully all their minds together is enough brainpower to keep the guy stable." Link commented rustling his sons hair gently as he slept.
"He's going to be okay right?"
"Yeah, he will." Link wearily said.
