this will probably make more sense if you've ever seen a meow mix commercial
"Is it back on?" Link shouted from the kitchen.
"No your good!" Amelia responded back, holding the baby in her lap as he watched the commercials intently. The cat then jumped up onto the couch startling Amelia, causing her to gasp loudly.
"You okay?" Link asked.
"Yeah, just your damn cat coming out from no where."
"I don't know why you hate my cat so much." Link chuckled sitting down next to his girlfriend with a bowl of popcorn. As they sat there a meow mix commercial came on and Link started singing along to the jingle.
"Link, what's your deal with cats?" He just meowed in response, causing his girlfriend to roll her eyes irritably.
"Meow." The parents both shot their gaze down to their son.
"Meow! That's right!" Link picked up his son and started showering him with kisses. "Can you believe he said his first word?"
"No no no, that is not a word. It's a sound effect." Amelia argued taking her son back from Link's grasp.
"Yes it was, Amelia." Link argued back.
"It's a sound effect." Amelia said defensively, she was damned if their sons first word was related to cats. Something she couldn't stand.
"It's a word. Isn't it Scout?"
"Meow." Scout said while giggling.
"This is ridiculous. It's a sound effect."
"Let me go get a dictionary." He said as he got up and went across the room to the bookshelf.
"It's not going to be in there."
"Meow, as a noun it's the characteristic crying sound of a cat, and as a verb to make a characteristic crying sound." Link said arrogantly, as he walked over to Amelia to show her the dictionary.
"No, can you say mama?" Amelia asked her son in a maternal manner.
"Face it Amelia his first word is meow."
"What about dada? Can you say something else, anything else?" She was begging at this point.
"Meow." Scout said again putting his fingers in his mothers mouth.
"You are such a good smart boy aren't you? We're just gonna be a great team against your mommy, huh?" Link jokingly said to his son.
"Come on Link, stop turning our son against me." Amelia bit back at him, standing up with their son in tow.
"Oh come on I was just kidding."
"Yeah sure." Amelia walked into Scouts bedroom to put him down to sleep. By the time she got him down she found that her boyfriend had retreated to bed.
"Hey, I'm sorry." Link apologized once his girlfriend entered their bedroom.
"Ehh, it's not your fault." Amelia said while she got into her pajamas. "I just can't fathom that our sons first word was a sound effect."
"Aww at least your admitting it's a word now." This caused a pillow to be thrown into Links face. Link opened up his arms signaling his girlfriend to come over to him. "Hey come here. I'm sorry our sons first word was meow."
"No need to apologize I'm just being dramatic. At least he's starting to talk." Amelia smiled looking up to her boyfriend. "He's growing up."
"He's growing up." Link reaffirmed.
