Trading Places

Emily, Jay, and I walked down to town where Antonio invited us to come and eat at a junk sale. Yeah, I know, it was a little weird, but oh well. We walked up to Antonio's stand where he was making fish as usual. "Beautiful day for a picnic." Em said.

"Yeah, thanks for inviting us, Antonio." Jayden agreed."

"Yeah, seriously I'm starving." I said.

"Well you won't be starving for long. I'm making my habanero hollandaise herring burgers." Antonio responded.

"I'll try anything once. Can I help with anything?"

"No, I'm good." Antonio started looking to his left at something. "Wow, what is up with that guy?" We all looked over to see a guy kneeling on the ground looking as if he was about to eat an invisible sandwich. I heard a zap and looked to my other side to see a guy on all fours.

"Maybe they're doing yoga."

"No, this isn't right." Emily said. We all stood and looked around.

"There's something definitely wrong here." Jayden said. We ran off and morphed elsewhere so we weren't seen. When we came back we saw a nighlok walking around and zapping people. Emily sent out her earth slicer to get the nighlok's attention.

"Go help those people. We got this." I ordered to Emily.

"Right." She went over and tried to shake people, but not one responded. "Just like the others. They're in a trance or something."

"What did you do to all of them?" Jayden asked the nighlok.

"Wake them up." I demanded.

"Nah, I don't think so." We all charged at the monster and fought for a little. He knocked down Emily and I while Jayden ran to us to check if we were okay. Jayden wasn't paying attention and Mia and Kevin came in, blocking the hit.

Jayden went over and started fighting the nighlok. The nighlok hit him and then pierced him in the chest with one of his hook things. "Jayden!" I yelled. The nighlok blasted us so we couldn't help Jay. He then put his other hook into a garden gnome. Jayden demorphed and did exactly what everyone else did. He kinda looked like how the gnome was positioned. "Jayden!"

"Is he okay?" Kevin asked.

"Jayden, baby, wake up." The nighlok laughed before walking over to the gnome.

"Time to finish him off." I ran over to the nighlok. "One blow and the red ranger will be history." I blocked his hit.

"History's not my best subject." The nighlok knocked me over, but Kevin and Mia stepped in. They got switched like Jayden and everyone else. Emily attacked the nighlok, but he dried out and fled to the Sanzu.

"You won't get away next time!" Em yelled. She went to look for Mia and Kevin under the tarp they fell on.

"Those people are frozen." I looked back at the garden gnome and ran my thumb over its cheek like I would do when Jayden was upset. I knew he was in there if he wasn't in his own body. "That nighlok thinks destroying the gnome will destroy Jayden. He must've switched Jayden's spirit into the gnome. Oh, no. Don't worry, babe. I'll get you out of there."

We brought Jayden, Kevin, Mia, and Antonio back to the Shiba house. Jayden was a gnome, Kevin was a ballerina in a music box, Mia was a fan, and Antonio was a fish. Emily went over and tapped on the gnome's hat. "You think they're awake in there?" She asked.

"Probably. I can feel it. I just wish we could communicate with them." I responded.

"So this nighlok switches people's spirits into objects?" Mentor asked inspecting Mia.
