An OC and above art by korelunaa
This OC and review contain themes of internalized homophobia and homophobia in general. If you're uncomfortable with the above, I suggest overlooking this review.

In the above image, you'll find Mihr Nûsh [Left], Roshanak [Middle], Sadık [Right]. Apologises, If I was tech-savvy enough to have all your illustrations in this review I would have, unfortunately, I'm not. So I just included the one of Sadık.

Summary: SUPER LONG SUMMARY I AM SO SO SORRY--IT'S NOT SO MUCH A SUMMARY ANYMORE.
The first half of the story takes place in the early 1800s. Ahmed, a young Egyptian scholar, has had a crush on Sadık for a long time. Sadık, an Ottoman Turkish sea merchant, has no clue. Mihr Nûsh, an illegitimate Persian royal (or so her mother claimed), has just made her way out of the harem. The three all cross paths at once in a port town. Ahmed asks Sadık to take him to a center for intellectuals in Britain. Mihr is looking for an island mentioned in a book she was given as a child. Sadık gives in to their demands and winds up on a grand ocean adventure complete with pirates, hidden places, and more. Throughout this, Sadık is forced to face his internalized homophobia head on. Around the end of their trip, Sadık and Ahmed have a big argument. The argument began when Ahmed tried to kiss Sadık and Sadık went on the offensive, shouting that there had never been anything between them. Ahmed took that as a sign to remove himself from Sadık's life.
The second half is Sadık in his early 40s. After years of reconditioning himself, he has learned that it's all right for men to be together, even publicly. He recognizes that his homophobia is his own personal problem and is close to finally "living his truth". This part of the story establishes that Mihr and Sadık got married and had a daughter, Roshanak. Mihr has kept correspondence with Ahmed. By the end of the story, Sadık and Ahmed cross paths once more and they either get together or never see each other again. It's undecided.
This universe is just the world in the 1800s except simple forms of magic and mysticism are real. There are a lot of fantastical elements in the story. Magic stuff isn't widely known and the knowledge is usually passed down through families or by priests, holistic doctors, etc.
[ I've got no issues with long summaries... In fact, yours isn't even that long. The first two paragraphs would be more suited as a summary of the story/plot rather than a summary of the universe. Your final paragraph is fine as the summary of the universe.]
