Mercedes looks at me and I look at her and we both look at King who looks at us confused.

"What do you mean we don't have the same dad? Let me see this." Mercedes says snatching the DNA results out my hands. Her eyes skim the paper and she shakes her head as she stares at the paper. "So who the fuck is my dad?"

"Where's your birth certificate?" King asks.

"It wouldn't matter, we don't have a paternal signature on ours," I say.

"You think this might have something to do with the deal? Like maybe Des knows I'm not his, maybe that went against what they agreed on, not saying It's the main part of the deal breakage, but it could be a fraction." Mercedes says.

"It's possible," King says.

"But how can he get mad? He had Dimitrius after me, so wouldn't that mean he broke a fraction of the deal too?"

"Or maybe I was just the payback baby. Maybe mom got pregnant to get back at Des for having a baby with someone else."

I can see the hurt wash over Mercedes's face but she quickly wipes it away.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves, let's keep looking it might all make sense if we find a bit more," King says.

There was still so much to go through and it was getting later and later in the evening. With there only being one bathroom, and eleven of us people took turns taking a shower allowing thirty to forty minutes for the water to heat back up before sending the next one.

I was so focused on looking through the many bins and books that I always passed my turn off to the next person. I needed to find out as much as I could. It would kill me not too.

Sure, I didn't have to sit here all day looking through this stuff, I could easily finish up tomorrow but I wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. I didn't wanna stay in Detroit longer than I needed too.

I flip through the next stack of papers skimming over them to figure out what they were. They were results, not DNA results, but medical.

I read every word on each page until I get to the very last page.

These were papers regarding my mom's cancer. I was eleven when my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. Most people think that to get lung cancer you have to be a smoker, but that's not true. My mom wasn't a smoker, but other factors around her allowed for cancer to form in her body.

As I was reading the rest of the paper I couldn't help but reread the same line over and over again until my jaw dropped.

I stand up and pace back and forth catching the attention of Ace and King.

"What is it?" Ace asks.

"This paper is telling me that my mom beat cancer on December 21st, 2015...  she died February 9th, 2016... this isn't adding up. They said she died from cancer, how if she was cured?  I'm not a damn doctor but I don't think cancer comes back that fast.."

"Aye, no cap this shit getting crazy." Ace says and I nod in agreeance.

"So what you thinkin'?" Jay says walking to stand beside me.

"What if she was killed... Maybe Des knew Mercedes wasn't his, and he killed her."

"But if he sent someone to kill her, why didn't he take you then."
