Amerie

"What is it?"

"Just come on." Jay stands up and reaches to lift me up. Surprisingly with all this up and down he has me doing I haven't been experiencing much pain today. He goes to lift me up but I stop him.

"Wait." I say and he looks at.

"What?"

"I wanna try to walk."

"Come on Amerie let me just carry you."

"No. You're the one who said I needed to start walking on it so it can rebuild it's strength. So let me try and walk on it."

Jay holds his hands up in defeat and I take my first step. I was nervous and didn't apply all my weight to my leg. I instantly reach out and grab Jay's arm.

"You straight?"

"Yeah, just baby steps." I breath out. I continue walking holding on Jay's arm. He matched my pace and was patient with me allowing me to walk this slow along the beach. Maybe he wasn't as bad as I thought he was. He was still an asshole nonetheless but he wasn't that bad when he was away from all the gang shit.

"You alright? Do you need a break?"

To be honest it didn't hurt as much to walk on it today but these baby steps were killing me because they were taking way too long.

I sigh. "Let me get on your back." he bends down allowing me to wrap my arms around his neck while he once again grabs my legs.

"You should pay me for all the times I have carried you in the past few days."

"If you never shot me in the leg you wouldn't be carrying me."

"I-"

"I- nothing nigga. Keep walking." Jay continues down until we come to three large rocks that sat in the water.

"Do you trust me?"

"Not really. It depends on what I'm trusting you with honestly."

"What if I say your life?"

"Then I'd say hell no."

He laughs and shakes his head. "Do you trust me enough to get up these rocks with you on my back?"

"Um... no."

"Well you got thirty seconds to learn how to trust me. Cause we're going to the third rock." I examine the rocks with my eyes and see how high up the third rock is.

"Oh hell nah. You're not taking me up that high. I don't even like heights what if we die up there."

"Come on. You're not gonna die... unless you fall off the edge." he laughs but my face remains straight.

"Jay... that's not funny."

"Come on, it's not the bad it'll be worth it."

I take a minute and breath. I close my eyes and say a quick prayer before opening my eyes.

"Okay. Let's go." A smile spreads across his face content that he got what he wanted.

"Aight. First things first, you gotta hold on tight to me cause if you fall that's your ass."

"Geez.. thanks for the pep talk."

He shakes his head. "Second tuck these in." He says re-positioning my legs around him. "You ready?"
