THE NEXT MORNING the girls headed down to the great hall for breakfast. Jasmines long, dark hair was braided over her left shoulder and she looked fresh and ready for the day.

She had her usual tea and toast and was just finishing the last few sips of tea when she heard shouting coming from outside the hall.

Various students began to leave the hall to see what the commotion was, clearly hoping for a bit of drama.

She and the others shared looks of concern, Hannah grabbing Jasmines arm and pulling her out of the hall.

Jasmine spotted her brother and his friends and moved to stand next to them.

"what's going on?" Jasmine asked, hoping that one of the boys would be able to enlighten her.

"Umbridge versus McGonagall" Draco answered, also watching on at the situation.

"I am merely requesting that when it comes to my students, you conform to the prescribed disciplinary practices." McGonagall retorted to Umbridge, as they were walking up the stairs to some of the classrooms.

"So silly of me, but it sounds as if you're questioning my authority in my own classroom, Minerva" Umbridge bit back, moving up a step, trying to look taller than McGonagall.

"Not at all, Delores. Merely you're medieval methods"McGonagall went up a step, oh shit.

"I am sorry, dear, but to question my practices, is to question the ministry and by extension, the minister himself. I am a tolerant woman, but the one thing I will not stand for, is disloyalty."

"Disloyalty" McGonagall responded in disbelief, stepping down a step.

"Things at Hogwarts are much worse than I feared" Umbridge stepped up, beginning to address the crowd that had gathered.

"Cornelius will want to take immediate action."

Jasmine and Hannah shared a look of worry. Jasmine had never seen McGonagall back down to anyone, this was rare. It was clear that the ministry was interfering in Hogwarts, and whilst her father worked for the ministry, Jasmine worried that it might not be for the best.

Fudge had appointed Umbridge as high inquisitor of Hogwarts, meaning she could make random rules and ban things which were once considered fine. This was not good.

Nonetheless, Jasmine attended all of her classes and continued to work to a high standard, in the hope that if she didn't cross paths with Umbridge, what she was doing may not affect her.

Jasmine walked into the into potions, her last lesson of the day with Hannah by her side.

"I wish we were sat together" Hannah said, pouting her lips.
