•TWENTY ONE•
Sixth year at Hogwarts School is witchcraft and Wizardry
THE TWINS HAD BOARDED THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS this year without their father seeing them off at the station. That was something that never happened. Their father told them that he had meetings but Jasmine knew otherwise, he had just refused to admit it.
Things really had changed, Ollivanders wand shop had been ransacked and he was now no longer selling wands, so first years needed to go elsewhere to get theirs. A muggle bridge had been destroyed and many witches and wizards were going missing and everyone seemed worried.
The Hogwarts Express held a much heavier feeling to it this year compared to those previously. It seemed that the older they got, the more they were filled with dread at what the year would bring them.
Jasmine sat next to Draco on the train who had his hand on her knee, Theo and Blaise were sat opposite. Draco did not look happy to be on the train back to school. He was bouncing his knee and looked very angry and on edge.
Jasmine placed her hand on his arm in hopes of calming him down, it seemed to work because his leg stopped bouncing and he gave her a small smile.
They were sat in a comfortable silence when the entire train carriage went black. Jasmine and Draco stood up, Jasmine pulled her wand out. She grasped his hand tightly, gasping as she could no longer see anything in front of her.
As the mist started to clear, Jasmine sat back down, Draco remained standing, looking around the carriage.
"Draco sit down, it's fine" Jasmine told him, pulling on his hand a little.
"What just happened? Theo? Blaise?" Draco asked, he seemed very concerned at what had just happened.
Blaise and Theo also looked tense, causing Jasmine to grow confused.
"I don't know" Blaise replied, Theo also shrugging his shoulders in response.
"calm down, its probably just first years messing about" Jasmine tried to reason, this seemed to get Draco to sit back down, his arm going over Jasmines shoulder.
Draco's eyes were trained on the luggage rack for a while before turning his attention back to his friends.
"Hogwarts. What a pathetic excuse for a School. I think I'd pitch myself off the astronomy tower if I thought I had to continue on for another two years" Draco sneered, Jasmine rolled her eyes and nudged him with her elbow. "what's that supposed to mean? you can't be serious" Jasmine asked, clearly annoyed with the way he was speaking.
"Lets just say I don't think you'll be seeing me wasting my time in charms class next year" He said causing both Blaise and Theo to snort and laugh a little.
"amused Blaise? We'll see just who's laughing in the end." Draco sneered again, Jasmine was confused at the way he was acting. Blaise laughed again and shook his head, looking out the window.
"I'm gonna go and find Hannah, you're acting weird" Jasmine said, picking up Loki and moving out of the compartment, "Jas - wait!" Draco called out for her, but she had already left the Slytherin carriage.
"Draco mate, just tell her" Theo said, clearly confused as to why she didn't know.
"do you not see how stressed out she is with your father, and how worried she is about you? I can't tell her, she'll want to help me, and I can't let her do that" Draco told Theo, who was clearly concerned for his sister, they both were.
"yeah but you're not there when she's stressing out about you. She won't admit it but I think she's more worried about you than our father" Theo tried to reason with Draco.
"You should think about telling her, mate" Blaise tried to add, Draco didn't reply after that he just stared out of the window.
Meanwhile, Jasmine had made her way into the Hufflepuff carriage and spotted her friends, Hannah squealed as she caught sight of the girl, quickly standing up and engulfing her in a hug. "I've missed you" Jasmine told her, squeezing her tight.
"I've missed you too" Hannah replied as they pulled apart. The rest of her friends pulled her in to hug them, squeezing her tight.
Hannah noticed however that Jasmine was a bit spaced out, she wasn't acting like herself, "what's up Jas?" She asked after they'd been sat down for a while, "Draco was just acting weird, I don't know, probably nothing" Jasmine shrugged, Hannah squeezed her hand as a way of reassurance, because she didn't know what else to say, nobody was exactly caught up on whether their relationship was progressing or not.
It wasn't long before they had reached Hogwarts and they were all back in the great hall again for the welcome feast, after being searched by Aurors from the ministry, it was quite weird really.
The first years had been been sorted, the sorting hat telling the students to be brave and strong in troubled times.
Jasmine was bored, and wanted nothing more than to go to bed.
It wasn't long before Dumbledore began to address the school for his welcome speech
"The very best of evenings to you! first off, please join me in welcoming the newest member of our staff Horace Slughorn." Dumbledore spoke loudly, everyone clapping for the new professor. Jasmines eyes drifted over to the Slytherin table, looking for Draco. His eyes met hers, already staring at her, she looked away as soon as she saw him, still not in the best of moods with him, but wanted to make sure he was there.
"Professor Slughorn, I'm happy to say, has agreed to resume his old post of Potions Master. Meanwhile the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts will be assumed by Professor Snape." Slytherin House began clapping, but Draco did not, he remained sat still, watching Jasmine.
"Now as you know, each and everyone of you was searched upon your arrival tonight. You have a right to know why." Dumbledore paused before continuing.
"Once there was a young man who, like you, sat in this very hall. Walked this castles corridors. slept beneath its roof. he seemed, to all the world, a student like any other. His name? Tom Riddle" He continued. She felt Hannah grasp her hand under the table, clearly shocked at the fact that Dumbledore actually said his name.
"today of course, the world knows him by another name. Which is why, as I stand looking out upon you all tonight, I am reminded of a sobering fact. Each day, every hour, this very minute perhaps, dark forces attempt to penetrate this castle. But in the end, their greatest weapon remains... you" Dumbledore continued once more, everyone in the great hall seemed in shock, everyone other than Draco, who's eyes were still trained on Jasmine.
"just something to keep in mind. Now, off to bed. Pip pip!" Dumbledore excused the student body, everyone standing up and beginning to leave the hall and make their way back to their dormitories.
