Rain

Two updates in a row, 3 updates on a single story in one day! I am on a ROLL!!
Here's something wholesome and cute for once (because everything I seem to write is either really deep, creepy or really sad).

It's raining outside today. There's a few people outside walking to and from their houses. Lots of them are carrying groceries and other goods. Those who don't have umbrellas run as fast as they can with their hands and jackets over their heads to keep rain from getting in their eyes. Standing in my doorway, I observe the scenes of my neighborhood.

"If you're gonna go out, don't forget your jacket and umbrella," I hear my older brother call out to me from another room.

"I wont," I holler back. After grabbing the necessary items, I shout, "Okay, I'm going out now!"

I leave the house, but not before hearing the faraway voice of my brother saying, "See you later!"

Once outside, I opened my umbrella and started on my journey. The smells of fresh air and rain water infiltrated my senses and the sound of raindrops hitting my umbrella put me at ease. Trying to take it all in, I took a big breath and exhaled slowly, keeping my eyes closed, listening. Now I'm ready to begin. I took one step forward, then another. I stopped right before the third step. A puddle lies in front of me.

I am unsure what to do about the puddle. Should I walk around it? Or maybe over it. Do I dip my toes in and make ripples? Or do I walk straight through it normally? I bring my eyebrows together and wrinkle my nose, feeling conflicted. No, I'm not going to do any of those things.

I grip my umbrella tightly with on hand and bring the other to my side, balling my hand into a fist. I shuffle my feet into a wider stance and I bend my knees. I shut my eyes tight and braced my body, getting ready to take action. Then, I leapt straight up into the air and gravity pulled me back down. I landed in the puddle with a big splash and got my socks, boots and pants soaking wet!

My splash had startled a sleeping cat nearby. I watched as it jumped off the concrete ledge it was lying on and ran across the street. It turned at the corner, disappearing behind a large building. I decided to go after it. My adventure was just beginning!
