~ Shattered Pieces ~
Today's shift at the coffee shop felt like it was never-ending. Customers came into like shop like a revolving door and the usual rushes were even busier. By the time our shift was over, Lindsey and I practically ran towards our vehicles barely saying goodbye to one another.
Upon walking into the apartment, I was greeted by blaring music and Alex swaying her hips to the beat in the kitchen. She noticed my unamused expression and grabbed the remote to lower the ear-piercing music.
"What's up with you?" She asked propping herself onto the counter as I took out a bottle of water from the refrigerator.
"Today was probably one of the longest shifts of my life," I said taking a sip from cool bottle.
"And that is why I said no to working there," Alex smiled while swinging her legs back and forth.
"I was tempted to pull a you and quit on the spot," I laughed setting down the bottle of water.
"Only I can make a theatrical exit as I did the other day," she said placing a hand on her chest for dramatics.
"I'm not in the mood to cook tonight either," I sighed leaning over the counter and propping my elbows on top.
"Okay okay, go take a shower and I will pick up dinner. I'm feeling Chinese so I hope you're okay with that," she said jumping off the counter and shoving me out the kitchen.
"Chinese works for me," I yelled as I climbed the stairs heading towards my bedroom.
I heard the front door slam shut and I stripped out of my clothes while walking towards the bathroom desperate for a shower.
Once I finished my shower, I pulled on a baggy t-shirt and a pair of pajama bottoms. I was brushing my hair in the bathroom mirror when my phone start to ring.
I walked into my room and picked up my phone off the bed and smiled when I noticed Wyatt was calling. I quickly answered the phone and held it to my ear.
"Hey, handsome," I said still smiling as I shut off my bedroom light and walked down the stairs.
"Handsome huh?" I heard the person on the line say and I soon realized it was Cole on the other end.
"Cole?" I questioned while plopping down on the couch.
"The one and only, apparently handsome too," he laughed and I knew he enjoyed picking on me.
"Why are you calling me from Wyatt's phone?" I asked folding my legs along the couch.
"Wyatt told me to call you but he walked out of the room for a second," he replied.
"How's the search going?" I asked out of curiosity since Wyatt hasn't given me any updates in the past few days.
"All dead ends," Cole huffed.
"Crap," I quietly said raising my hand to tug on my lower lip.
"Can I talk to my girlfriend now?" I heard Wyatt ask and my heart fluttered at the faint sound of his voice.
"Gotta go but it was nice talking to ya," Cole said before handing the phone over to Wyatt.
"Hello," Wyatt said into the phone.
"Hey, why are you all still up? Isn't it after midnight?" I asked since the time in Italy was a few hours ahead of Chicago.
"Yes, but I wanted to call you before I went to sleep," he replied.
"I missed hearing your voice and I may have accidentally called Cole handsome when I picked up thinking it was you," I said fighting back a laugh.
"Should I be worried that Cole might steal you from me?" Wyatt teased and I knew that wasn't a possibility.
