AP and I finally put down the last table. We walked back and looked at the setup. We put two tables together with benches around them in a square. We put the food we already had in the middle and the rest would be added to that.
Satisfied with the setup we started up the speakers and got the party going. I found Laura and finally spent some time with her. Up to this point, I've kinda just been hanging around AP.
"I didn't realize you had so many friends" Laura laughed while looking around at the bunch of people.
"Really? They're always on my tik tok" I laughed in response. She shrugged and laughed.
"Yeah I guess so"

I sat awkwardly in my spot as everyone around me sang happy birthday. I tried to keep a smile on my face but that was hard when I just wanted to laugh. Why do we sing at our birthdays when it's awkward for everyone?
They finally stopped and placed a small cake in front of me. I smiled and blew the candles out. As I watched the last candle go out I closed my eyes. I wish for her to be mine. I opened my eyes and smiled.

Hours later it was turning dark. And we weren't going anywhere yet. The music was still loud and people were still dancing. I looked around trying to find Laura. After a while, I found her by the river. I smiled to myself and walked over to her.
"Hey, what are you doing here alone?" I asked while sitting down by her side.
"I like the water when its dark" she replied quietly.
"I do too. It's peaceful" I replied and looked between her and the water. She simply noded in response. I laughed, receiving a confused look.
"I've had fun today, like a lot of fun but" I paused and looked at her. "not as much as I'm having just sitting next to you"
She smiled and looked down. I smiled back. Instead of saying something back she leaned her head on my shoulder. I gently leaned my own head against hers and reached for her hand.
"Have you ever been in love?" she asked out of nowhere. I looked down with a laugh.
"Only twice" I replied. "How about you?"
"More as I'd like to admit" she sighed and moved her head of my shoulder.
"Well how many would you like to admit?"
She stopped to think for a second. After a moment of silence she finally looked at me.
"Once"
