Natatanaw ko na ang mataas na gate ng academy. The gold-plated sign "Aster Academy" was shining because of the rising sun. It's such a nice view to watch kaya kahit everyday ko siyang nakikita ay hindi ko yata pagsasawaan, seeing the fruit of all my hard works is sometimes still surreal to me. Gosh! It's too early and I'm being too emotional already.
Nang tumapat kami sa guard house ay inilabas ko ang ID ko para i-scan sa scanner. Ngumiti ang mga guard at bumati ng magandang umaga, so I greeted them back with a smile. Mag-aala siete na kaya marami na ang mga batang nagsisirating. Tinahak namin ang brick pathway hanggang makarating sa harap ng main gate.
"Dito na lang po ako, Tay." Marami ng estudyante sa loob kaya hindi ko na pinapasok pa ang kotse dahil siguradong mahihirapan pa si Tatay Romeo sa paglabas mamaya. Ako na ang nagbukas ng pinto ko para lumabas kaya wala nang nagawa si Tatay.
Tumapat ako sa pinto sa gawi niya upang magpaalam. "Salamat po, Tay. tatawag na lang po ako kapag magpapasundo na ako." Nagmano ako sa kaniya at dire-diretsong pumasok sa loob.
May sari-sariling mundo ang mga batang nadaraanan ko. Some have their earphones on, some are laughing with their friends and some are just silently walking with books in their hands. I just hope they could stay innocent as they are right now, adulthood is such a scary phase.
Nang mapadaan ako sa gawi nila ay kanya kanya silang tago ng piercing, ang iba ay pasimpleng nagtago sa likod ng kasama para itago ang hair color niya at ang ilan ay naghatak ng palda pababa upang mag mukhang mahaba. I guess they are the freshmen because I can see the fear in their eyes, understandable naman dahil mukha akong strikto kahit hindi naman.
"Good Morning po, Maam Lucado," they greeted in unison.
I smiled and gave them a light nod. "I like you hair color," nakangiti pa ring bati ko sa isang estudyanteng nadaanan ko.
She looks shocked because of what I said. Pero I really like her hair color, no cap.
I helped her with her things dahil hindi siya makadala sa dami ng bitbit niya. "You have your own locker sa classroom mo, just leave your things there starting tomorrow so you won't have a hard time carrying all of this every day."
I helped her because the main building is a few more meters away, as in malayo. Well, it's my fault because I asked the architect to design it that way. Para everyday pa rin silang may walking exercise kahit na I changed the modules for Physical Education. I changed it from doing physical activities to self-defense and things that are beneficial and could help them. Kasi personally, I don't find those Zumba things effective. Given that this world is turning into such a scary place, mabuti na 'yong alam nila kung paano nila poprotektahan ang sarili nila.
After ko siyang ihatid sa classrom niya ay dumiretso ako sa main building kung nasaan ang opisina ko. I scanned my fingerprint on the door and went inside.
