Chapter 23

You arrive at the settlement and stop once you reach the gate. The guards point their weapons at you and shout to get out of the car. You see Zelus stick his head out and shouts at the guards to open the gates. You drive inside and park the car once they open the gates.

You step out and notice a lot of people staring at you. You notice they're wearing military-style uniforms. Zelus gets out of the car and puts a hand on your shoulder.

Zelus: "Follow me."

You follow him into a shack and then into a room with a big table and two chairs . Zelus sits behind the table and motions for you to sit.

Carlos: "What's this about?"

Zelus: "You've known Y/N for a long time, right? Since you were kids?"

Carlos: "How do you know that?"

Zelus: "I know a lot about Y/N. I basically am him. But there's one thing that me and the men in this settlement have in common."

Carlos: "And that is...?"

He leans in and crosses his hands.

Zelus: "We want to kill Y/N."

You scoff and lean back in your chair.

Carlos: "Really? You brought me here so you could tell me how much you want to kill my best friend?"

Zelus: "Not exactly."

He stands up and walks over to a window and looks out of it.

Zelus: "I told you that I know a lot about Y/N. I also know a lot about you, Carlos."

Carlos: "Is that so? So you know I don't take lightly to threats."

Zelus: "No, you don't. But I know about your life long dream..."

Carlos: "And that is?"

Zelus: "...to be king."

You cross your arms and stare at him.

Zelus: "It's your desire to be king. To be recognized as powerful. To have people kneel before you. To have whatever you desire."

Carlos: "...and you know this, how?

Zelus: "It's been very clear. Since you were a kid, always telling your parents and people how you'll be king one day, and how they'd laugh at you or brush you off. No one ever believed in you, but you always believed in them."

You sit quietly and think back.

Zelus: "Everyone has dreams, Carlos. And a lot of those dreamers are laughed at and told they'll never achieve them. Tell me, Carlos... did Y/N support you in your desires."

You start shaking your leg in frustration.

Carlos: "What are you trying to get at?"

He walks behind the desk and sits down again.

Zelus: "I'm forming an alliance, Carlos. I want you to be a part of it, I need you to be a part of it."

You continue leaning back in the chair while messing with your nails.

Carlos: "This alliance... it is to kill him?"

Zelus: "Yes. We're not just going to kill him, we're going to get revenge for everything he's done."

You cross your hands and begin to think.

Carlos: "What do I get out of this?"

You see him grin.

Zelus: "I want you to know something. I wasn't the original leader of this place."

Carlos: "No?"
