Chapter 24

1 Week Later

Y/N POV

Clementine sits on your bed and starts shaking you awake. You finally open your eyes and sit up.

Y/N: "What's up?"

Clem: "They found another body. "

You look down while closing your eyes in frustration.

Y/N: "Godammit!"

You knock over the vase on your nightstand. Clementine doesn't even bother saying anything. You get out of the bed and holster your pistols.

Clem: "What are you gonna do?"

Y/N: "We're gonna find this son of a bitch."

Clem: "How? Do you plan on starting a witch hunt?"

Y/N: "If that's what it takes. You got a problem with that?"

Clem: "No. I already told you I would help you with anything."

Y/N: "Good. Come on."

You put your arm around her and walk her out of the house.

Y/N: "Gather people to the center, I need to make an announcement."

She nods and you kiss her before she walks away. You walk to the center of the settlement where you have your announcements and sit on a nearby stool. You start cracking your fingers while looking down at the floor. You feel someone tap on your shoulder and see that it's Violet.

Y/N: "Hey."

Violet: "Hey."

She sits on the stool next to you.

Violet: "What's going on?"

Y/N: "I'm about to make an announcement."

Violet: "I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the murders."

Y/N: "I don't know, Vi. It's already up to four this week."

Violet: "Still no sign? Nothing?"

Y/N: "No, this person is really good at hiding their tracks."

Violet: "You think starting a witch hunt is a good idea?"

Y/N: "I don't know, but I have to do something. These people are on edge and if I don't do something about it soon, they'll start losing their trust in me."

Violet: "I understand. I got your back on whatever you decide."

Y/N: "I know, thanks."

You see the big crowd of people approaching and you stand on the small stage. You begin once they all quiet down.

Y/N: "As you all know, there have been murders happening this whole week. We lost Jenny, Davey, Mac, and Ms. Heidi McCourt. They were good people who deserved better. But their lives were taken by a monster, someone inside these walls. I know a lot of you are worried, I am too. But we will find the son of a bitch responsible for these horrendous acts. This is what I ask of you, all the people who have chores to do, you go get those done, safely.  As for the people who are free, I'm sorry to waste your free time but I need your help in finding clues that may lead to the discovery of this bastard. Please, stay safe and if you find anything or see anything suspicious, you come find me. That's it folks."

You hear the crowd murmur as they disperse. You step off the stage and sigh while messing with your fingers. You know they're scared, you are too. You have to do something before they revolt.

Violet: "I gotta say, you're a great leader."

Y/N: "I wish I felt the same."

She rubs your arm and softly smiles at you.
