It Never Ends

I looked at Clint, who was on the phone, talking to someone "Honey... Honey?" he struggled to speak from pure happiness.

"Guys!" Scott repeated "It. Worked."

I looked back down at Bruce and smiled. He was slowly opening his eyes and I was so ready to tell him everything was worth it. As his eyes opened, he looked directly out of the window. His pupils suddenly shrunk in fear and I followed his gaze to see a missile heading towards us.

Before I could yell anything, the missile hit the base and blew Scott away. Then came a continuous array of missiles that completely destroyed the HQ. All of us rumbled down with the walls. Soon we were all covered in tonnes of concrete and metal. Hopefully still alive.

The fighting never ends, does it?

I looked around myself, still feeling dizzy from all the noise and pain, there, under a pile of rocks, was Tony in his suit. I was never so happy to see him. I set my head back down on the ground, trying to clear up my vision and my thoughts. After a few seconds I started to drift away to sleep and I knew that meant no good.

I struggled to stay awake for a few moments before going unconscious again. I woke up to the sound of Tony's voice "Come on, buddy. Wake up." he said as he tried to lift me up into a sitting position "That's right."

"What happened?" I asked when I finally came to my senses.

"We messed with time. It tends to mess back." he simply said "You'll see."

He helped me up and walked out of the cave like space we were in while I followed behind. We walked up to join Thor who was observing Thanos from a distance. I assumed it was the Thanos from 2014. and decided not to ask any questions. It wasn't exactly like this surprised me. Something had to go wrong.

"What's he been doing?" Tony asked.

"Absolutely nothing." Thor answered.

I studied Thanos for a moment before realizing he didn't have the gauntlet on him "Where are the stones?" I asked.

"Somewhere under all this. All I know is he doesn't have them." Tony explained.

"So we just don't let him have them." I stated the obvious.

"You know it's a trap, right?" Thor asked.

"Yeah. And I don't much care." Tony sighed.

"Good. Just as long we are all in agreement." Thor said, thunder cracked as he stretched out both hands to summon both Stormbreaker and Mjolnir which I assumed was also from the past. His casual clothes transformed into an armor and his beard was...braided "Let's kill him properly this time." he said and started walking forward.

I waited for Tony to follow him before I started to walk myself. Tony got his helmet on while I adjusted my metal arm and fixed my hair (you wouldn't want it to fall down during a fight). My hands started glowing red as we approached the big purple monster. I knew he wasn't the one responsible for what happened to me these past few years, but he was going to be the one to pay for it.

"You could not live with your own failure." he started talking  "And where did that bring you? Back to me." he said with a creepy smile on his face "I thought by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive. But you've shown me that's impossible. And as long as there are those that remember what was, there will always be those that are unable to accept what can be. They will resist."

"Yep. We're all kinds of stubborn." Tony came in with a witty comeback.

"I'm thankful. Because now, I know what I must do." Thanos said and stood up "I will shred this universe down to its last atom." he paused and put on his helmet "And then, with the stones you've collected for me, create a new one. Teeming with life, but knows not what it has lost but only what it has been given. A grateful universe."

"But born out of what?" I spoke up "Blood of innocent millions."

"They'll never know it. Because you won't be alive to tell them." he said.

Thor called down lighting and engaged. Tony went straight for Thanos too. I stood back for a second before lighting up my hands even more.

"Okay, Thor. Hit me." I heard Tony say as he stuck his legs to the ground.

Thor banged his weapons together creating a powerful lighting that he directed into the back of Tony's suit. The suit sucked up the energy and Tony shot it out towards Thanos through his hands. Thanos twirled his blade diverting the energy. Thor then grabbed Stormbreaker and used it to launch Mjölnir towards Thanos. But Thanos used Tony as a shield resulting in pretty big damage to his suit.

I watched Thor and Ironman fight this ridiculously powerful titan, only throwing in a few energy blasts here and there. Looking at them, risking their lives, I remembered why I missed them so much over the past five years. The feeling of being protected, loved. Family.

As I joined Thor in fighting Thanos, I couldn't help but glance Tony's way a few times, just to make sure he was moving. During one of those glances, Thanos attacked Thor with full force, probably because he could tell I wasn't entirely there and he saw him as a bigger threat.

Thor was being beaten and choked by Thanos repeatedly while I stood there, not knowing what to do. In that moment, I was scared shitless.

"Don't hold back." I heard Tony over the comms and I looked at him, he was struggling to move, but he saw I froze "I know you're scared of him and of what you can do, but you can unleash it all on him. This one has nothing on you, he can't control you."

I nodded towards him and looked back at Thor. Just it time, it seemed, because Thanos was pushing Stormbreaker into Thor's chest.

I took a deep breath, collecting everything I learned over the years I spent among the Avengers, about my emotions, my powers and using it against him. Every bit of energy I had in myself in that moment I directed their way. I screamed, unleashing an energy blast through my hands which sent Thanos flying away from Thor, in a pile of rocks and onto the ground.

He was quick to stand up again. He kicked Thor to the ground as he walked past him and then charged at me. He was wielding his dual sword while I battled him solely with my powers, using moves Wanda thought me. I was more of a knife or a gun girl, the powers I had we rarely used like this in battle. I just never had someone to teach me things beyond what Hydra did. And it never seemed necessary for me to learn. Until Thanos showed up.

We fought for quite a while and I was impressed by my abilities. The emotions I used to shut down in the past only made my punches stronger. And I loved that.

Thanos eventually got the upper hand and stabbed me in the leg. As I struggled to get up from my knees, he kicked me in the chest. I fell on my back and grunted. I could feel him standing over me for a few seconds before turning around and leaving.

I looked up to see him standing in front of us.

"In all my years of conquest– violence– slaughter– It was never personal. But I'll tell you now– what I'm about to do to your stubborn, annoying little planet– I'm gonna enjoy it. Very, very much." he said and summoned his entire army on the ground. Thousands of them.

I sat up and looked up at the sky. My eyes we teary as I thought about the fact that after all we did, we still managed to fuck it up. I also remembered the determination I admired so much in Steve. How he would stand up and fight till his last breath if he was in my shoes right now. I say fuck it.

I looked over to Tony and Thor. Tony was drifting away into unconsciousness while trying to fix up his suit so he could fight while Thor was knocked out. I was the only one standing. Barely standing.

I sighed and stood up. If this is how I die, I'll at least I die as a good guy.

Crackling in my earpiece broke me out of my thoughts.

"To...ny? A-an?" I heard a familiar voice on the other side "Anybody copy?"

"No, no. I got a good one." another familiar voice spoke up "On your left."
