"addy," a hushed voice whispers, shaking gently on my shoulder.
i groan and attempt to shrug off the hand, but it lays firmly and shakes me again.
"whoever that is, stop. i'm tired..." i mumble, shutting my eyes again.
"there's dolphins."
the words wake me instantly and i sit upright, still slightly disoriented from my sleep. ethan stands next to my bed wearing his pajamas, looking tired as well.
"w-what?" i ask, squinting my eyes in the golden morning sun that filters in through my window.
"you said you liked dolphins... and i saw them. come on," he urges, grabbing my arm and starting to tug at it.
why ethan is waking me up for something i barely mentioned a month ago, i don't know.
but it makes me feel a little warm inside that he remembered, and even went to the lengths of dragging me out of bed— which is borderline impossible.
i scratch my head and he moves out of the way so i can swing my legs over the bed and stand to stretch.
"hurry, we're gonna miss them if you don't get it together," he laughs quietly and leads me out my bedroom door.
evan's is still closed, which makes me wonder why he didn't wake him up as well. he would've been much easier to convince than me, that's for sure.
and sure enough, when i step out into the early morning air, there's four dolphins frolicking in the waters a couple yards out.
i can't help but smile when i see them, and the stupid, familiar sound of ethan's camera flashes in the air.
i roll my eyes as i turn to him and see him holding it up. "aren't you supposed to be documenting the dolphins? i feel like that would be a much more pleasing photo than me with my morning red-eye and hair that needs a brush through it."
he then points it out at the water and says, "you're right. your hair does need a brush through it."
he looks pretty smug at his joke when i playfully push him, causing him to grab the railing for support.
he then takes a picture of the dolphins and puts his camera away, allowing him to enjoy it through his own eyes rather than through a lens.
the sleek, majestic mammals jump in and out of the water and make playful clicking noises. i see one of the smallest babies chase after the mother in an attempt to keep up with the others. but he always stays with the group, even when it looks like he's too slow.
as we both lean against the railing, i look to the horizon and notice that the reddish orange hue of the awakening morning sun, and grin again.
everything is so much prettier right when the sun wakes up.
even with two of the worlds most beautiful things in front of us, i still feel ethan's eyes on me.
