Gabby
Nakakatuliro ang mga lumalabas sa bibig ni Kate ngayon. But for whatever reason, I am bound to honor a favor asked by her and to keep a promise I made to Sherri. Sa ngayon, wala akong ibang nais kung hindi ang manatili sa buhay ni Sherri. And if being her friend is all I'll ever be, I have to accept defeat. Ngunit isang mahirap na pabor lang talaga ang hinihingi sa'kin ni Kate dahil sa pangakong binitawan ko na kay Sherri. Taking caring of her will only mean falling deeper into heart break. Ngayon pa lang ay nakikita ko na kung gaano nga nito kamahal si Kate.
"Spice, I think you're not thinking clearly. Hindi ko kailangan si Gabby—"
"Spice, can I speak alone with Gabby please?" ang hindi namin inaasahan na sabihin ni Kate kay Sherri. "Please?"
"P-pero..."
"I won't take long. I promise."
Mangiyak-ngiyak na naman na sumunod si Sherri. Sinusundan ko lang ito ng tingin hanggang sa tuluyan na itong makalabas ng kwarto at isinarado ang pinto kasunod nito.
"You really love her, don't you?" pagsasalita ulit ni Kate. "I lost her first Gabby. I spent almost seven years of waiting to come to this day and couldn't blame anyone but myself because I gave up on her."
Umupo ito sa silyang kanina ay inuupuan ni Sherri. Napaupo na rin ako sa kama.
"I told her I'm not going to leave her ever again and here I am leaving her again," patuloy nito. "She is yours to take care of, Gabby."
"Bakit ako? Hindi ka ba natatakot na pwedeng wala ka nang babalikan dito?"
"That's a promise she has to keep. If she loves me, she wouldn't be bothered with your existence."
"Pero bakit nga ako? Bakit hindi ang mga kaibigan niya?"
"Because I need you and I need this. I need you to take care of her as much as I could take care of her. May sariling buhay at mundo ang mga kaibigan niya. Pero kung sayo ko siya ikaakatiwala, alam kong aalagaan mo siya kagaya ng gagawin kong pag-alaga sa kanya."
"At paano ako?"
"It's up to you if you'll take the painful world you've been looking for and deal with it or walk away as she wants to. Isn't it what you said? Masaktan ka man ay okay lang dahil gusto mong manatili sa mundo niya? Binabalik ko lang sayo ang mga salitang sinabi mo, Gabby. Now, if you can't do that, nothing much will change either. Whether I will leave or not, akin pa rin si Sherri unless she will decide otherwise. And I need this. I need this to trust her fully. I need this to trust her heart. Having you around her is enough as a test of her love for me. Sa ganoong paraan, tayong tatlo ang makakasigurado sa kung sino nga ang nilalaman ng puso ni Sherri. I had my chance. Now, it's your turn. And until I get back, let's see who weighed in her heart more."
It sounds to me as both a dare and a challenge. Hindi ko rin magawang tumutol at humindi sa inaalok nito. She's right! I want to be with Sherri kahit man hanggang kaibigan lang. Alam kong puso ko ang nakataya rito pero puso rin naman ni Sherri ang posibleng mapapanalo ko. At kung si Kate man ang pipiliin nito, then at least my heart can start healing by accepting her as a friend. It's a win-win situation.
"Natahimik ka? Are you changing your mind now?" pagpukaw ni Kate sa iniisip ko. Oo nga pala at nagmamadali ito.
"No one's changing her mind, Kate. Now, it's all up to Sherri."
Tumango ito. "It's all up to Sherri."
Tumayo na ako at inilahad ang kamay ko rito. "May the best heart wins."
