Dianne took the blue plastic plate in to the living room. It had a ham and cheese sandwich on it and also a packet of cheese and onion crisps.
This was lunch for her daughter piper who was 3. Despite leaving school with no grades she got a good job with good pay, a house and was able to provide for her daughter. Being a single mum was hard for her at first but she had proved everyone who had told her she couldnt do it wrong. The dad, well he left, and had nothing to so with piper. He was younger than dianne and didn't want the responsibility. Now she was 24 and wouldn't have it any other way.
"Heres your lunch little one"
Dianne put the plate on her lap as it was easier for her to eat like that rather than at a table.
"Thanks mamma"
She smiled. Dianne smiled back. Just listening to her cute little voice made her happy. She definitely wasn't planned but was not a mistake at all. This was obviously the path god chose for Dianne.
"Right pips, can I talk to you about something? about something important "
Dianne asked her. She was nervous about having this conversation with her. With a three year old dianne thought it wouldn't make any sense to her but yet piper was clever for a three year old. Dianne had taught her simple basic life skills already. She could count to ten, point out colours and spell her name, so she wasn't stupid so hopefully it would all make sense to her.
"Yes mummy, is is something sad mummy? Mamma are you sad? Is it wrong?"
Piper asked
"No of course not baby. It's about something that will happen tonight. Later on this evening "
Dianne told her
"Will I get to stay up later? Is auntie amy coming for dinner?"
She asked her mum
"No, you definitely wont be staying up late and amy isn't coming for dinner. Somebody really special to mummy is coming to stay for the night and it's going to be the first time you meet them so I want you to be on your best behaviour. "
Dianne told her
"Who is it?"
Piper said
"Well piper....for quite a while now mummy's been seeing this boy and you know......its progressed and we've got to the stage were we've realised that we want to be together"
Dianne explained the best she could. To a 3 year old she disnt know how to explain it as easy as she could so she could understand.
"Together, does that mean you will be glued to him?"
Piper said which sent her into fits of laughter. Some of the things she came out with were so random and funny.
"No darling. It means that we love eachother very much and were in a relationship. Do you know what that means?"
Dianne asked her and piper shook her head with a very confused look on her face.
"Well being in a relationship basically means that your married you somebody or your somebody's boyfriend or girlfriend. So mummy and this boy are together in a relationship which means we are boyfriend and girlfriend "
Disnne told her
"That's nice mamma"
Piper smiled
"It is nice. So he's going to come to stay tonight and I want you to be really nice to him. He probably won't want you climbing all over him so if mamma tells you to leave him alone you've got to listen because it's the first time you meet so be will probably be abit nervous and also because we haven't seen eachother in a week so we miss eachother alot wo we want to spend some time together without having you using up as a climbing frame"
Dianne giggled bopping the end of her nose.
"Ok mamma, I be good. What do I call him?"
She asked
"His names joe. And hes very kind. You will love him"
Dianne told her .
She couldn't wait for joe, her boyfriend, to meet the most important girl in her life. Her daughter. But she was a little nervous incase piper made him overwhelmed or if piper didn't like him.
