⚠️trigger warning: cancer⚠️
Also incase this doesnt make sense I want to say that the things written in italics are flashbacks."Mummy"
As soon as the front door opened the two children ran up to dianne throwing their arms around her legs."Hello you two"
Dianne ruffled with her oldest hair whilst she tried to put her bag down."Mummy are you coming home forever now?"
That broke her heart. She never got to spend time with her children ever. She was either in and out of hospital and when she was at home the kids would need to go to school so it was a very rare occasion they got to see eachother. They were young too, so they only had a certain understanding of what was going on."I'll talk about it later sweetheart"
Dianne told them before going into the kitchen to see her husband joe. He knew she was coming home but he didn't know anything else. He thought maybe in a few weeks she'd be back in hospital as thats how it normally would go."Hey dot"
He walked over to her giving her the biggest hug. As dianne had cancer, she had lost so much weight. Her body was so small and delicate and whenever joe touched her he tried to be as gentle as he could because he didn't want to hurt her. She actually weighed less than their two children put together so she was really tiny and hardly looked like herslef. She could fit in kids clothes. She still had her hair though and it had grown quite long and was still red."Hi jospeh"
She softly kissed his lips"Are you okay?"
The last time he had seen her was this morning. He went in to help her pack her stuff up to bring back home but he came back to be with the kids as he wanted to see be with them when they saw their mum again for the first time in months. They never went and visited her in the hospital as it was just too upsetting for a 5 and 2 year old to see."Yeah I'm good, better than this morning"
She told him"That's good then. Hopefully you'll start to feel even better soon. Do you want a drink?"
He asked her and dianne nodded. Joe knew exactly what she would want to poured her a glass of tonic water.
Dianne looked behind her seeing that the children weren't there, she could hear them playing in the living room."I'm cancer free joe"
She just blurted out. She really wanted to wait to tell him in a really special moment but she couldn't wait. He was her husband and he deserved to know and not have this hidden from him."You are?"
He turned around leaving her half poured glass of tonic water on the side. He was pretty shocked as last week they were told dianne was going to get increasingly worse and wouldn't have long left. They had predicted a month."Yeah"
She nodded whilst smiling"Awww dotty"
He walked over to her picking up her tiny little body being really careful. She was much smaller in height than him now too. She had gone down a few inches and thst came with her losing so much weight."They said it won't come back either and they are 100% sure of it"
She whispered into his ear as she hid her face in his shoulder."Wow......"
Joe put her back down on the ground kidding her softly."I know....wow"
Dianne giggled"And they are definitely sure it won't come back?"
He asked"Yep"
She nodded"I love you"
He stroked her hair behind her ear."I love you too"
The now 37 year old told her husband.
